I found out last night at 10 p.m . that I had strep. I've been on penicillin for 24 hours now. I called in sick to work today. Trying to decide about tomorrow. Technically I dont think I will be contagious and other than the pain from swallowing I dont feel bad. I have about 35 sick hours built up so that's not a problem. Just wondering when most people would go back considering that worrying about my job and my pay are not issues?

After 24 hours, that would be based on how you're feeling and the type of job you have.

I went back to work after my Z-Pak was gone.

But honestly, I was told I had a TERRIBLE case last year, and after a night with Z-Pak, Ibuprofin and Vicodin in me, I woke up a new woman! :rotfl:

Still, Doc told me I could spread it before the Z-Pak was gone.

Feel better!

If you've been on an antibiotic for 24 hours, you should't be contagious anymore. I still would wait until you were fever-free for at least 24 hours before going back to work, though. When I get strep, which is about three times a year, it gets really bad. I always have to get a steroid shot which always makes mine go away in a shorter amount of time. Hope you feel better soon!

After 24 hrs on antibiotic, unless I am still feeling really bad, but you shouldn'tbe contagious after 24 hrs.

After you're on antibiotics for 24 hours you shouldn't be contagious anymore. Unless I've had a really bad case of it and feel really bad (there have been times where I can't even get off the couch and eat for a few days) I'm usually back to work after I'm on meds for 24 hours.

I used to get it so often (one year 3 times in 2 months) they decided to take my tonsils out 2 years ago and I haven't had it since...thank God, it's miserable!

Our pediatrician OK's the kids to go back to school after 2 doses of antibiotics, and I usually wait 24 hours.
