'Street Players' at MGM

Who out there has seen them? While at MGM in 2000, DH, DD and I heard a 'tourist couple' yelling and bickering at each other. As curiosity got the best of us, we went into a shop to get a look at these people who had the nerve to be bickering in public. It took us about a minute to realize it was 'an act' ad-libbed by the 'street players.' It was too funny! We ended up following them (as so many other guests did) around for a few minutes. My DD enjoyed it more than Cindy's breakfast! I've never seen a thread posted about the 'street acts at MGM', but am eager to read of other's experiences!

Five weeks from tomorrow till we arrive again at WDW!

I HAVE! I HAVE! And I LOVED them. We found them just out side the Sunset Ranch Market.

They were going at each other really good. All because he wouldn't buy her a hot dog. But what really got our attention was the way they were dressed.

He was wearing a long over coat, with a 70's pale blue polyester suite, with the whitest shoes I think I have ever seen. It went quite well with his comb over and Elive style sunglasses.

While she took the cake in picking the outfit that you should NEVER be cought dead in. The outfit was made up of a HOT PINK strech shirt, and HOT PINK strech pants, with a pair a black hills. Then we had the fake muticolored fur jacket on top of that. Then on her lovely head we have a bleach blond mound of hair with HOT PINK furry Mickey Ears.

Good I wished I had taken my camera to the park that day.

They stood there in front of the Market for a good 20 minutes, just yelling at each other. And I think that because their really wasn't any kids around we got the PG-13 version of the act.

They soon were going on thier way, and so we went in the other direction. We ended up in a Jewlery store. And wouldn't you know it, we start to hear some yelling again. This time because he would not buy her some jewlery. He said that he was not going to buy her anything else in the park that day, because he had finaly broken down and bought her a hot dog.

He started to walk my way, while at the same time saying that he was going to leave her there and she would never be able to find him. Not thinking about it I said, "You are at Walt Disney World, if she reports you missing you will be found." He goes yea, well they will have to take me back to her kicking and screaming. And then he walked out the door, while she was still in the shop, trying to pick up the CM behind the counter.

They were just funny. I was starting to laugh, jst think ing about them, while I wrote this. I really hope that I will run into the again on my next trip. I WILL have my camera with me this time.

We have had a few great experiences with the "streetmosphere" at MGM.
I think they used to have more characters, or they come out later in the day and we always seem to leave the park early.
We have video from 10 years ago. "Nick Tracy" was doing some amazing card tricks with our daughter, who was 12 at the time.
Nick was Dick Tracy's brother. He was hilarious and a very talented magician.
There's also "Otto", the movie director with various stars and starlets. Any many, many more!
Maybe we'll make it a point to catch some "streetmosphere" at MGM next month.

We met Dame Sadie...we were on my honeymoon and she was walkinig behind us...I kept turning around to look at her (she was weariing a fur I believe...a really old.mismatched woman) finally she yelled WHAT?? So I asked for pictures of my DH and I...she read our shirts which said our wedding date and she followed us all the way down the street souting clear the way Newlyweds..say congrats they just got hitched,,,then the policeman performer came and they both started saying things! It was hysterical

My niece is a cheerleader and her team was approached by a street character last year right after they got knocked out of competition. The girls described her as a "bag lady" (maybe the Dame Sadie of previous poster?). Apparently some of the cheer girls had been crying and this character really worked on the girls, got them to do a cheer in the street and worked the crowd into supporting them that they should go back and confront the judges. It was just what the girls needed to get them back in the Disney spirit, my niece said the character was great!

AHhhhhhhhhh my FAVORITE MGM discussion!!

Does anyone remember Elmo, Frederick and Mr B..........they're still there I believe, but I mean the ORIGINAL Elmo?

He was like RUBBER. I'm guessing he probably injured himself performing but MAN was he funny! The three of them teamed up made an act that MGM hasn't been able to duplicate.

We also enjoy Otto, with his big big voice and his big big personality. LOL


My mom likes to sit and wait for them to start something.....these days though, she'd have to wait a bit longer, because yeah, I don't think they're out as often as they used to be.

Bunny (It hink that was her name) left her friend and picked out my husband to be her new beau. She called him "Steve the Accountant". It was great.

Yes, I loved them too. I remember the starlet who rode in the car to make some big announcement. This was a couple years ago. To me, it's the #1 thing at MGM. However, I haven't seen then since then (almost 2 years). What's the most recent any of the "streetmosphere" characters have been seen? ANyone seen them this year?

A bunch of them set up a dating game in the street (August 2002), and I was given questions to ask the bachelors. I picked a real strange one! It drew quite a crowd and I should have gone with their pick!

We saw the "dating game" one in July2002. And I saw the fighting couple, too. They started picking people from the crowd to go home with instead of each other, but then ended up "making up". It was really funny! & I just LOVE the workers...I don't know what to call they but I think they are supposed to work for the city street dept or something? They wear tools belts with plungers on them and coveralls and hard hats! I've seen them on 2 different trips. 2002 & 2001. One time there was 3 of them and the next time there was 2. I don't go on TT or RR, so I get to see those acts while the rest of the group is standing in line!

Our family was happily munching on some goodies in front of Villains when along came Roman Holiday and somebody else (manager, agent?). They picked me out of the crowd to go sit on a bench with Mr. Holiday. The only problem was that Roman had laryngitis and couldn't talk so the other guy did all the talking. He asked me who I was with and I pointed to my family and he laughed at them and said, "Look, they're all eating!" You have to know my family and now three years later we still look at each other and say that phrase and crack up! I had to kiss Roman Holiday and got to ask him a question. I asked him who he was and what movies he had been in and he was so hurt that I didn't know who he was. I wish I had thought quickly enough to ask him where he gets his hair cut! Darn!
Luckily (yeah, right!) my DH got the whole thing on tape. I was so embarassed but I always said I wanted to work at WDW!

OMG, we had such a good time last year watching these folks do their thing. Carlotta Diamond sticks in my mind, mostly because she asked my honey a question about Mickey Mouse and gave my honey the wonderful prize of a "Completely Worthless $5 bill" which was of course just paper play money, but it's going in the scrapbook.

Yes, my trip was last year in September, and no the scrapbook is no where close to done yet. lol Anyway......

We caught several different acts along the way. It seemed like we just happened to catch the next act just about the time we would turn a corner. We had a great time just enjoying MGM at a snail's pace last year. I am hoping to do that with all the parks this time. While we certainly have our fair share of chances to see and do it all commando style, I think that I can finally relax a bit more now that I have seen all the parks at least once now.

I encourage anyone to sit and just enjoy yourself _being_ at WDW. You never know what you might find. Mickey

In MGM they were having a play with these three actress ladies who were looking for dates. The one spotted my husband and ask the other two ladies if he had a gotee and if his name was Eddie Bauer (his shirt said Eddie Bauer). And the other woman were all saying yes yes thats him. Then she asked how come he had 2 kids in a carriage, I was hiding behind other people. Then the one ladie said that he was a nanny by day and a hunk by night. They were so funny.

I've never seen any of these characters. Are they posted in the entertainment guide? I'd sure like to see the bickering couple!

THere was a thread not too long ago that had the schedules for the street players and the barb. shop quartet and other "side" shows at WDW- does anyone know where that thread is? I'd really like to copy the schedule. Thanks!
