Street Performers at MGM

We had dinner at Hollywood and Vine one night and as we came out of the restaurant, there were street performers entertaining a crowd of people.

There were 3 construction workers in their work truck. It was like a Laurel and Hardy routine. Straight guy and two dumb guys. They were very very funny.
My son and I were turning red from laughing so much. I couldn't see anything listed in the park pamphlet about the street performers. How do I go about finding their schedule and where they perform at MGM?

Do they have street performers in the other parks too?

I have been to the parks many times and yet this was the first time that I have seen them.

Last time we were at MGM-there was a couple (street performers-supposed to be husband and wife) going in and out of the shops and on the street raggin on each other-OMG-we laughed so hard at their routine that I was holding my sides-my face hurt from laughing. DD was going through her black clothing phase (dark jeans, black hat, black t-shirt etc.) It was 93 deg -this husband and wife team took the time to harass her about her attire. The very next day the dark clothes stage ended and colours began to appear in her wardrobe (thank you street performers-much appreciated). We've seen a few performances in Epcot-a lady that looks like a real statue but moves- a mime, belly dancing (I don't know if you would classify them as street performers but we will definitely be looking for them this time). Also in MGM the "Mayor" was being driven around in an old model T type car greeting people.

The guys in the truck are the "Public Works" crew. They're part of the Streetmosphere entertainment at MGM. When you get to the park, go to Guest Relations and ask if you can get a schedule of when the Streetmo people will be performing, and then you can catch as many of them as you like.

At Epcot, the street performers are in UK and Italy -- they are more formal troupes of actors who do shows like take-offs on King Lear and Romeo & Juliet. There are also street entertainers at DAK and MK. Just stop at Guest Relations and tell them you're looking for a schedule for street entertainers, and they'll be able to give you a list of wheres and whens.

I've seen and video taped a street performance of a troupe of silent movie era film makers shooting a scene on the main drag of MGM. They're hilarious, and since crowds were light, two of the actresses played to my camera while I taped. Didn't catch any of this earlier this month.

When we were there in January, they were doing a skit where a producer was looking to tape his movie in the studios but there was a young lady who refused to get out of his way because she wanted to get his attention. All the guys would come up to her and start telling her to move, then she would put on her Hat, and she would turn into "the most beautiful girl in the world." The jokes these guys had made us laugh so hard.
Mgm is the only park that I've seen the preformers in

I found a lot of info on street performers (and other special things) on Steve Soares site (http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/). Click on the park you are interested in and it will show you a schedule times and locations. It includes "NP" next to performances that you won't find published schedules for. It also includes a description of the performance (when you know the description, the titles make sense, but sometimes the title is a play on words and you don’t “get” it until you see the performance or hear the description). We saw the Robot at Epcot (but if we didn’t know about it, we probably wouldn’t have just stumbled across it). Also, “A Chair Act” at Epcot, which based on its title doesn’t sound like much, was impressive to watch: In France, a “waiter” shows up and sets up a table and chair (this is just on the sidewalk, we asked where it would be and were told where to wait, we waited for a while and wondered if we were in the wrong place, but then he arrived with no fanfare, pushing a cart that had a table and chairs and he began setting up the table, like he would be serving someone at a sidewalk café. The “waiter” selects a confederate, disguised as a typical WDW visitor and the act begins……one of the fellows balances on top of a chair, then adds a chair and another…..the guy ends up in a handstand on top of 5 or 6 chairs (probably 20’ off the ground (unpadded concrete). It was worth watching!

That website also gave me some good info ahead of time for our schedule. We wanted to see the candy artist in Japan at Epcot, and the site showed that she would be on vacation for part of our trip and showed when she would return….we used this to help plan which days to go to Epcot.

Thank you to everyone for your responses. We find something new each trip and will look forward to the next trip to see these street performers.

We were at MGM November 2002 and a group of street performers came out of a storefront. We saw them coming and stood watching while they set up for there spelling bee. My 6 yr old DS was selected to be a contestent in the spelling bee against one of their performers who was made to look like a 90 yr old woman. She was the all time champion. It was hilarious as she was given very difficult words and my DS was given his own name, the spelling bee hosts favorite movie "ET" and cat or something. It is a memory that we will never forget and we were lucky enough to tape it as well as getting photos and autographs. If you want to participate they seem to choose people standing around while they set up.

We had an experience with the street perfomers in MGM this past trip. It was a rather dead day at MGM and we were walking past Beauty & the Beast, heading towards the main street to the big hat. We saw the guys in their beat up ole truck and didnt really pay attention. All of a sudden we hear "HEY ASHTON", then he screams "I SAID HEY ASHTON". Thats my daughters name, and she was wearing her Guest Of Honor badge, and he starts waving really big and yelling HI ASHTON, HI ASHTON, EVERYONE WAVE AT ASHTON. She was mortified. HAHA They rest of us were laughing and she said "oh my gosh" and covered her face up. All the way down the road ( they were heading to TOT) this man screamed ASSSSSSHTOOONN . it was hysterical!!
