We want to book the Fantasmic dining package for our April trip, but I cannot find any info on this. I'd like to be informed before I call the reservation line in Oct.

I tried to find it on TGM (I'm a subscriber) to no avail. I vaguely remember hearing somewhere (maybe here on the DIS, maybe at TGM) that there are only certain Disney Studios restaurants that participate & that the meals happen more like late luch time, rather than during actual dinner hours.

Anyone know where I can get this info explained in detail? Thank you! :goodvibes

I don't know where to point you, but here's what I know..The restaurants that participate are Hollywood and Vine, Mama Melrosa's, and Hollywood Brown Derby. Sci Fi and Prime Time do not (las I checked). My experience has been that the available times are on the early side. I've had 3:50, 4:30, that kind of thing. Although, I did just confirm my ADRs for next month and I have a 5:50 at H&V, so go figure. I do believe you give a credit card number even though you may pay with the dining plan or any other way when you get there. If you're a no-show they charge your card.

When you're done with your meal they give you a tickey with the number in your party written on it. You are then able to enter the Fantasmic theater via an entrance near the front of the park, not the usual entrance. I've generally gone in about 35-40 minutes before the show. I love the walk, because it's "behind the scenes" so to speak. The seats are the section all the way to the right side, but that's worth it to me to not stand in line.

If there's anything else, feel free to ask. HTH!

Even with the "Dinner Pkg.", they still expect you to be in your seats about 30 minutes before show-time.
The "Dinner Pkg." seating is not "guaranteed" if you arrive too late.

The "Dinner Pkg." seats are not in the center section, but off to the side and about half-way "up" in the rows. So ANY of these "pkg." seats are all about as good as the others within that rather limited area.
These "pkg." seats are just fine, but not "prime" seats.
(We actually like to sit virtually dead-center and in the first 5 rows near the "stage/lake".)

But Fantasmic! is so HUGE of a production, that most every seat will allow a nice view (except maybe for the "extreme" edges and "standing-room" area in the back) and good sound.

You CAN enter with your "Dinner Pkg." voucher and NOT choose to sit in the roped-off "Dinner Pkg." area.
So if you see a seat or seats still available that you'd RATHER have, you may sit anywhere in the theater you choose.

So that's why we never bother with the "Dinner Pkg.", but just arrive an hour or so early, sit down in a great spot, eat our "snack dinner" from the in-theater consession stands, and wait for the show.

-------------

No one can predict EXACTLY how large the crowds will be or how early you should go to find a seat for Fantasmic! on any given day.
It has totally to do with the whim of the crowd at MGM on that day, and the general crowd LEVELS.
How much time you wish to "invest" in waiting is a personal decision. We never do the formal Dinner Package, and have always seen the show (dozens of times).

(Take all of these as "average" numbers, sometimes the crowd will be MUCH greater and the theater can fill up much sooner.)

VERY Busy days:
If you go to the first show of the evening (or "only" show that evening), if you arrive about 75-120 minutes before show-time, you can sit just about anywhere.
45-60 minutes before: Good seats
20-40 Minutes: will vary between seats at edges and rear of theater to SRO or even "closed" to further guests.

Busy days:
If you go to the first show of the evening (or "only" show that evening), if you arrive about 50-60 minutes before show-time, you can sit just about anywhere.
40 minutes before: Good seats
25-35 Minutes: will vary between seats at edges and rear of theater to SRO or even "closed" to further guests. (The crowd of "last-minute" arrivals can be slow to get seated before show-time.)

Off-Season (not busy days):
You should be OK to enter by 10-20 minutes before, but you'll likely be seated to the outer edges, and/or way at the back.

If you do the dinner pkg. you can enter 30 minutes before (or a bit later) and still be guaranteed "pretty good" seats (not my "first choice" area, but fine), regardless of crowd-levels.

If there are TWO Fantasmic! shows in one evening, the second one will have lower crowd level than the first one. You can arrive a bit later and still find a seat.

Be aware that the second show waiting area will LOOK like the show is "too crowded".
That's because they HOLD the 2nd crowd outside the theater while the CMs CLEAN it after the first crowd has exited.

Then, they will let those waiting together in that big group IN... all at once, and there will be PLENTY of room.

(The theater holds 10,000 guests!)

We like to eat our evening "meal" while waiting for Fantasmic! to start.
You can bring in items from the counter-service places in MGM, or they DO have concession stands at the rear of the theater serving "baseball stadium-type" food and drinks. Yes, even beer, sold strictly ONE-at-a-time, one-only-to-a-person, so a single person can't go and buy beer for other members of a group... all guests wanting to buy a beer must be present in-person at the counter.
We have a hot dog, maybe a pretzel, later some popcorn or cotton candy (Disney Health Food).

There is a whole section in TGM devoted to Fantasmic!
Go to the "parks & places" header at the top of the main page.
Scroll down the page to Disney MGM Studios and click the link.
Scroll down to "Lands at a Glance" at click on the MGM entertainment link.
Scroll down to "Attractions at a Glance" and click on the Fantasmic! link.

I hope this helps :)

Mari Disney - thanks for the info - I am definitely interested in trying Mama Melrose's - I've heard really good things about it.

Robo - I think you answered every question that I had re: Fantasmic. Except for maybe the exact length of the show (but I bet you could tell me ;) )I thank you for your thorough response - I feel like I can probably get good seats without the dining package, but we definitely want to eat at Mama Melrose that day - so we may give it a whirl. It sounds like we may want to poo poo their side line seating, and aim for the center. Thanks for the tip.

Princess De - Thanks for the info. I'll be checking the TGM section dedicated to Fantasmic. I hope he'll be as thorough as TGR(Robo).

I can't believe this is my 8th trip to Disney World, and I still haven't seen Fantasmic.

Wow! You're going to be amazed... have a great time!! :woohoo:

Robo-thanks for the times! I'm cutting and pasting your post into my Disney notes Word file as soon as I type this out. I'm assuming early June (say, 7th to 12th or so) would be considered "busy" season?

June is vacation season, for sure.

You can kind of "guage" the number of folks in the park when you are there and see if that day "feels" like a busy one.

Rule of thumb: The earlier the better.
Hot dogs in the theater are really good, especially when followed by a cotton candy "chaser". :thumbsup2

As Robo said, the seating is not "great" as it is off to the side, and you still have to show up early. In fact, when we showed up, there were still enough good, center section empty seats, that we just sat in the regular area.

Also, note that when you eat with the Fantasmic Dinner Package, you MUST buy certain things and spend a certain amount of money.

To make a resservation for this package, you just ask about it at the Disney Dining telephone number (the same for making a normal dining arrangement).

However, personally, I just dont think it's worth it.

Thanks again Robo -

I can't believe that you know the exact length of Fantasmic. You have taught us well Obi Wan. ;)

But can you answer this.....
Considering the massive wealth of knowledge that you have imparted to the throngs of bewildered Disney pilgrims on these boards, allow me to pose one of the most difficult, mind-bending questions of all time...........
Is the Fantasmic hot dog chasing cotton candy pink or blue?

As a cotton candy snob, I am crossing my fingers for pink. The blue leaves a funky after taste. C'mon pink. Pink, pink, pink.

And the answer is...

PINK!!

(or Blue... they have BOTH , its Disney!)

Amazing, truly amazing. :goodvibes

I think I'll order in the following way..... "Hi, I'll have a hot dog please. I hear they're the best around. Oh, and I'll need a cotton candy too. Word on the street is it gives an extra *kick* to the hot dog. Pink please. None of that blue funky tasting stuff for me. By the way, Robo says "hi". Gotta go, I'll be sitting in the good seats."
