Can someone explain how one would add points to an already purchased
timeshare. If I buy 150 now and decide I'd rather 210. Do I add to origial
purchase or buy a new one? Will they sell just 60 points alone? Is there a benefit to doing it this way?

If you buy from Disney, they call it an "add-on" and the minimum is 25 points for cash and 50 points if you finance. You can buy odd amounts.

However, once a resort sells-out it becomes difficult if not impossible to get points.

Some people also buy points at another resort so they will get a home resort advantage there as well. The advantage is only for the points belonging to that resort, not your total.

Disney also requires that purchases under 150 points (a new contract) be the same Use Year as your original purchase.

You can also buy on the resale market. Here, you don't necessarily have to stick with the same Use Year. However, paying closing costs sometimes makes buying small packages quite expensive.

If you purchase from Disney, and buy the same resort and use year of your original purchase, then they will essentially become the same contract (only the suffix changes such as -001, -002, -003 etc.). All the points are then treated the same.

You can buy as few (I believe), as 25 add on points this way. (the limit is a little higher if you finance through Disney). Of course you can purchase more...30, 50, 60, 61, 62 etc...

If you purchase a resale it is a totally different contract, even if it's the same resort and use year. You would have to specify which contract to use for the points everytime you made a reservation.

If you buy from Disney but a different resort, or a different use year, then those points are treated separately from your original contract and you would have to specify which resort's or which use year's points to use when making reservations.

Hope this helps.

We bought 150 at first. We added on twice later at the going rate.....not the same rate as our first 150 points because Disney had raised the rate per point. Each time you add on it's treated like another contract.

I see you are from Brockton and we are from Pocasset. If you wish, you can e-mail me at my home:

rorobou@netzero.net

and we can either talk on the e=mail or I can give you my telephone and we can talk personally about DVC.
