Strategies to stay dry on rides?

Is there a location that's better than another for staying dry? And when I read "sit in the back row" or "sit in the from row", how does that work when CMs are loading rides and telling people where to sit?

Specifically trying to stay as dry as possible on Splash and Kali (even possible?)

I know - sounds ridiculous to stay dry on a water ride, but we have a little guy sensitive to sudden splashes even if he knows it's a possibility. We will have ponchos.

Honestly, if he's really ultra sensitive, my answer would be to simply not go on some of them. There aren't a ton of rides where you truly get "splashed" anyway.

Splash Mountain - I'd sit in the back, on the left side, but all spots will get some degree of water. The front tends to get the bigger splash, and there's a waterfall on the right side of the boat after the big drop that gets people on the right (1st and 2nd row mostly) wet.

Kali - it's 100% unpredictable. You may not get a drop, you may get drenched. If you're backwards at the bottom of the drop, you're getting a bath. If you're forward...looking at the person going backward...you're likely to stay dry. However, that's purely random luck. There are elephants shooting water after the big drop, but that depends on if there are people on the bridge above activating them.

I can't think of other rides where you actually get "splashed". There may be a few drops of water on Pirates, but nothing close to a splash...ever. Same with FEA.

With Kali River Rapids, you need to plan on getting drenched, poncho or not. If that's going to be an issue with your little one, don't put him on it.

You'll get less wet on splash mountain, but l would still avoid it if getting splashed is going to be a problem. Generally, people will tell you that the back is the driest spot, but that's the seat my daughter always picks and she always gets soaked.

Basically, what I'm saying is this: if someone doesn't like getting wet, don't make them go on a water ride. There is absolutely no way to prevent getting suddenly splahed.

I do not like to walk around wet all day, so before we hit Kali, I put on a Disney poncho and flip flops. I then hold my bag under the poncho, in my lap. I don't get wet.

There may be other rides on which you get wet. My shorts got soaked on the Frozen ride at Epcot. Other people have not gotten wet. I think for that ride it might depend on which side of the boat, which row, and possible the combined weight of the people on the boat.

I haven't gone to the Little Mermaid show at DHS in years, but I recall being annoyed because mist came down from the ceiling when you went in, and I had not known to put my camera away before entering.

I hate getting wet and rides and then have to walk around in those soggy clothes!

I look ridiculous but I do not care. Splash is one of my all time favorite rides, so I go prepared to get soaked.

I take two ponchos's. One, put it on like pants and tie up the middle. Then put one on like normal. I found only using one, my rear end gets soaked.

This kept me dry on Kali's, Splash and the water rides at Universal.

Frozen, I only got my rear wet. I put on my upside down poncho and it kept me dry.

If he is super sensitive and prone to panicking, I would avoid anything with the splash at the beginning. It may make things worse if he is also trapped on the ride for a while (especially in the dark!) and is panicked that it might happen again.

The best seat location I found wasn’t the bench outside the queue area. I loathe we talk ride sand refuse to get on them. Works best with a full bucket of fresh popcorn.

When CMs are loading rides and telling people where to sit, you can politely ask them if you can wait for the spot that you want to sit in. I've done it numerous times. Sometimes you will have to wait a couple of minutes, but it really depends on the ride and how fast they are loading the ride.

My DS went through a phase where he hated getting splashed or getting his clothes wet even a little bit. It wasn't a situation where he panicked, just didn't like it. We put him in a poncho for Splash and did not do Kali at all. He didn't love Splash but wasn't upset either. Just didn't want to do it again. We did get a little wet on FEA.

I don't think you can necessarily bank on one seat being safer than the others other than Splash where the waterfall gets you (have him sit in the left to avoid it). Back seats are probably generally better but I think a lot depends on the weight distribution in the boats. We've had my 4 foot high DD sit behind my 6 ft DH and still get wet.

One of my DDs does not like to get wet on rides (at least as far as the last few trips were concerned - 7 and 8 years old).

She rides splash and kali with a poncho on and that has been fine.

We don't worry about Frozen or PoTC.

The rule on Kali River is that if you don’t want to get wet, you will leave drenched, regardless. My son loves getting wet and my daughter and I do not. Never fails that he is dry and we are soaked through.

I wear a poncho on the water rides and tuck all of the edges of the poncho under me so I'm sitting on all edges of the poncho (aside from the portion covering my legs). I also make sure the hood of the poncho is on my head. I hope that all makes sense. Anyway, I also carry a pair of flip flops in my bag, and before I line up for the ride, I switch out my socks and shoes for my flip flops, putting my socks/shoes in my bag. I then switch from my flip flops back to my shoes after I get off the ride. I've been doing this for the past 5+ years, and I haven't gotten wet on any of the water rides (aside from my feet/flip flops), even when water was poured on me.

Strategy to stay dry on rides? Well, if a ride has a water element don’t ride it!
