I'm going to MNSSHP in October for the very first time! I'm so excited! Does anyone have any tips or strategies as to how we should go about doing this thing? I've been to MVMCP and wish I had talked to someone first because we missed so much! Ended up riding the same rides we had ridden all day because everything was so full and crowded!! I DO NOT want that to happen again! So, please- give me your list of the best way to handle what happens on that night! THANKS EVERYONE!!

We are going to our first MNSSHP this year too. I have been reading every post regarding it. Since this one is already getting shuffled towards the bottom I'm going to give it a little bump.

My boyfriend and I attended last October and got to do just about everything but the fortune tellers, the line was always long for that.
My tip, get there early, before open.
Even though the party didn't officially start until 7 p.m., guests were allowed in the park prior and those already in MK were given wrist bands that had tickets. They hold the crowds to Main Street until the party starts, so that is your best time to check out all the cool decorations on Main Street, shop (and hit the first bunch of Trick or Treat stations!).
Really, for all rides, we had little to no problem with waits (Fantasyland was pretty crowded though, you might want to hit that first as soon as the ropes drop).
Also, I had always heard the second parade is always less crowded than the first, and the crowds start to die down half-way through the night...not true. Make sure you get to the parade early too to see the Headless Horseman take his ride.
And whatever you do, don't skip the Haunted Mansion. They make it a little spookier for the night.

What time do they actually let you in? We are not going to be at the parks during the day so should we get there at 6pm? or what time would be best?

When we went, people were telling us that you wouldn't be let in until a certain time, but it seems they just kept MK open from park close to party time and just let people with MNSSHP tickets in.
Also with photos, we got ours taken during the first parade in Liberty Square. We just walked right up.

WHere do they take these photos? ANy other little 'side show ' thigns we shouldn't miss besides the photos and the fortune teller ?

The photos are taken in various lands. Last year there was one right outside of Timekeeper, closest to Buzz Lightyear, one by Pirates, and two pretty close to each other, the one in Liberty Square next to HoP and one in Fantasyland around the old Skyway.
What is "can't miss" depends on the age of those in your party. I considered from reviews what I could miss as the "Boo to You" parade where kids parade in costume, and the Halloween Riverboat Ride.
But a true don't miss is Cinderella's Coach set up behind the castle. And make sure you get a spot early for Fantasy in the Sky to see who takes Tink's place!

ojk- I know you won't believe this. but it's only MOMS on this trip. NO KIDS!!! I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not?!?!?

No kids is always good in my opinion...haha. OK, you will have a blast with just adults. My boyfriend and I went last year, dressed in costume, and we're 25..lol. We were dressed as an LSU cheerleader and baseball player (by the way....WATCH OUT OMAHA!) and we got so many compliments.
Here's my adult schedule to MNSSHP:
Skip the Boo to You parades. Be sure to catch the Headless Horseman. Visit Cinderella's Coach. Catch the second run of the parade. Hit the photo booths and rides the hardest during the first parade. Oh, and don't forget the trick-or-treating, its for everyone.
