Have you ever gotten a friend request from someone who is not a friend of a friend or not someone you know?

I got one yesterday-and it puzzles me

This person lives in the city I used to live in( 30 years ago) and has a hobby similar to mine (not that he would know that)-but I cant figure out why the friend request-he also hasnt posted on his wall in 6 months

Odd?:confused3

Could be he was searching for someone with a similar name.

I have. I don't accept them if I don't recognize them or am not able to "place" them. There have been a few random weirdos or spammers who seem to have no connection to me in any way, shape, or form. I avoid them immediately. But there are other people who I don't accept who I might have a basic connection with (e.g. hometown, school, Disney, church) but who I don't really know and who seem to just be asking every friend's friend to be their friend.

I've had a few people I don't know try to friend me, I just ignore them. It could be they're just searching for someone with your name and are trying everyone till they find them.

Could he just need a friend for farmville or one of the other games??? I have a whole section of disboard buddies that I don't know but I need for my games and so far it has worked out great. Most of my family doesn't play the games. Also you could just send a message and ask who they are. :surfweb:

Same here got a few friend requests for people wanting neighbours on farmville and frontierville.

Yeah...I've had some of those requests. I always check the profile to see what games they are playing and if we have any mutual friends before I accept.

He's probably someone who "collects" friends.

You do have the ability to let FB know you don't know him, and it will block any further friend requests.

I've had to do that for a couple of people who went to my high school, but were several years younger and/or are friends with 1 person I know.

I've seen this happen to me, and I never figured out why. I think I've had maybe 6 or so requests in the past year. All women (I'm a guy), about 5 - 10 years younger than me.

I get a lot of Stranger Requests and I just ignore them.

I don't get it either...

I have gotten a few I ignore them and deny them.

I have gotten them too. I know they aren't searching for someone with my same name as my name is not common. These people are from areas that I have never lived and we have no friends in common. They get ignored. One was a female from CA and in her profile pic she was wearing sexy lingerie. :rolleyes1

I do have several friends that are Disers that started as friends for games but have become really good friends. But all of those people would include their Dis name in a message when sending the friend request.

years ago when I finally got the internet at home (think 95-96) I was on a chat room a lot.. I was young and stupid gave people my real name and address.. thought nothing about it back then! Well last year I got a request on facebook from this same guy about 3 times finally i asked if I knew him well it was one of the guys I use to chat with 10+ years ago!! How he remembered my name (and how to spell it) I dont know! Thankfully he wasn't a serial killer but a nice married man now with kids who just wanted to see how I was doing...

Maybe you could take a little time to go back and review how FB works.. There must be some way you can block this sort of thing from happening.. I wouldn't know - because I don't use it - but I would think the information is there - if you want to look for it.. Good luck with that..:goodvibes

what aboout weird messages from people you don't know-for the lat 3 days I have gotten 1 a day from different girls in their 20s or so - the message is just hello but the profile pic is naked full frontal!!:scared1: what the heck is that about- I don't even open them I just erase asap and I have changed my privacy settings too.

You can - sort of, at least. You can't preemptively block requests from strangers, since Facebook has no way of knowing if someone knows you or not. But you can block a stranger who has sent you a request so they can't send more. You can also block everyone from sending you friend requests and/or messages. Then the only way for someone to become your friend is if you choose to send them a request.

Sounds like you have answered her question for her..:thumbsup2 Now she won't have to go back and review what she signed up for..:goodvibes
