Strange Towel Laundering Question

I had this problem for a while. Now I wash all towels in hot water, get them into the dryer as soon as possible and I do not add a fabric softener sheet. Smell went away.

FYI: You should NOT use liquid fabric softener or dryer sheets with towels. It affects their absorbancy. Kind of "coats" the fibers (i.e., the softness), which stops them from doing their job.

Dodie, this is true!!! But, the downy advanced/Enhancer (which is hard to find) is different. (this is the downy that is clear, not milky looking) This is the only one I will use!!!

You can read about it on the downy web site. I will see if I can find a link.

edited to add: I just checked it out, and I no longer even see this on the Downy web-site. ????? I am wondering if this is going to be disconinued. Maybe they have reformulated all the regular Downy??? I am going to go out and by several bottles if I can find them!!!

I don't like to use bleach, as it is hard on the septic system and the environment, but every now and then I make an exception for a particularly funky load. Also, hanging on the line works great to eliminate odor and to "naturally" bleach things. Martha Stewart says to never wash dish towels with anything else, but I don't think she lives on the same planet as the rest of us. :rotfl2:
