Strange ticket upgrade question

My sister-in-law truly thinks I know everything Disney, so I need the answer to this question to prove her right. Over Easter(2 weeks ago), she joined us for a few days at Disney. She knew she was coming back to WDW with us in June, so she purchased a 7-day hopper here at the Disney store to get the advance-purchase price, and planned to use 1-2 days off the 7-day hopper 2 weeks ago, then the remaining 5-6 days and a waterpark visit or two in June. She ended up not going with us to any parks over Easter, opting instead to shop at DtD and to visit PI(she bought a ticket for the 1 night). The only thing she used the 7-day hopper for was 1 trip to Blizzard Beach with my son(he talked her into it). Now we have decided to add a trip in October when the kids are out of school, and she is thinking of joining us again for that trip. If that happens, she would have been better off purchasing the AP rather than the 7-day hopper. I have had terrible luck upgrading tickets, even ones that had not been used, so I want an idea of the how this upgrade will be handled before we go. I do know that she will have to upgrade the 7-day hopper to a PAP since she has already used a plus visit(waterpark), but that is fine with her as we are planning to do both waterparks once in June, and possibly DQ, too. Is it even possible to upgrade a 7-day hopper to a PAP if only 1 plus visit has been used, and if so, what is the value placed on the plus visit? Also, I am assuming the PAP will be backdated to April, so she will really be kicking herself over paying for PI that 1 night. Any help(Oh, GoldenOldie) will be greatly appreciated.

Okay, are you ready? ;)

Since she used an admission off the 7 day PHP, she cannot apply the entire value of the ticket towards a PAP. That can only be done within 7 days of first use. Once you pass that time window, you can only apply the dollar value of the unused admissions as a credit towards the new AP or PAP (yes, she can get an AP if she wants). If she did the upgrade within the first 7 days, she would have had to get a PAP but not now.

Now what complicates this is that Disney usually assigns no dollar value to plus options when you upgrade or exchange the ticket. That would mean her ticket is still worth the whole amount paid for it, right? Normally yes if it was unused but not if anything has been used - even just a a plus option. Disney will now give you credit for the purchase price less an adjustment for the used plus option (probably around $20-$25).

The AP or PAP will not be backdated. It will be good one year from the date of the upgrade. The only time an AP/PAP gets backdated is when a PH or PHP ticket is upgraded within the first 7 days of use. Then the AP/PAP would be backdated to the first day the pass was used.

Any Guest Relations can handle this transaction for you. Guest Services at the resorts cannot.

Got all that? :teeth:

I completely understand about the back-dating thing...duh...I must have had a brain freeze(been happening regularly since the age of thirty, uh, 29). So, the pass won't be back-dated, which is good because we can plan our trip in 2005 for a week before the expiration date if she joins us for that trip, too. My only concern is the value placed on the plus she used. If there is more than $33 deducted from the pass for the upgrade, we will probably opt to keep the pass as is, and just purchase a 4-day hopper for the trip in October. Thanks GoldenOldie for the help. I hope it happens just as you said.
