We have been having problems with telewest broadband since the beginning of october. We have had 3 new modems and nothing has solved the problem so we have changed to sky broadband. every morning it takes me a while to get on line i keep getting page can not be displayed, then it will connect. I have just phoned them up to ask about this problem only to be told it is natural causes ie; using a remote control or a microwave etc. Which is interfering with the signal!!!!! So every time this happens i have to rebute the computer.

Never heard of this before. I'm on ADSL but BIL has no problems with cable broadband :)

Are you running on a wireless network then Deedee ??

Yes Alan we are so we don't have to have cables running from the lounge to the dining room. perhaps we should have gone for the cables!!!!!

Cables are generally more trouble free but there is no reason why wireless should be particularly problematic either :confused3

Do you switch your broadband router off when you are not using it?? what about your computer?? do you switch the router on before you boot the laptop??

A lot of questions I know but generally the router should take less than a minute to boot and connect to the internet which is far less time than most versions of windows take to sort themselves out :)

It could be the thickness of the walls in your house. We have wireless broadband. DD's bedroom, which is furthest away from the transmitter, has no problems receiving the signal (it goes "through" the ceiling). However, if we sit in the lounge with the laptop (15 feet from the transmitter) we have a lot of trouble connecting (two inner walls - stairway inbetween dining room and lounge - "properly" built i.e. brick not plasterboard). If we open the doors between the rooms the signal improves.
