Strange find for my Disney jar, help!

My parents recently brought over my old Mickey Mouse piggy bank from when I was a kid. I don't remember doing this but I guess I had a lot of half dollars (Kennedys) and dollar coins (Eisenhowers) in it. Face value is about $20 in the bank but I wonder if they might be worth more. I am also wondering if any bank will still take these, or should I look for a collector?

I any event, I am now using my old Mickey bank as my new Disney jar!

The coins aren't that old and most people have some of them sitting in a drawer some place, but you could always take them to a coin shop and ask what they would give you for them since you never can tell if you have something especially rare. If not, a bank should take them. When my Mom worked as a teller and someone brought in the older coins, she would exchange them for dollar bills and then use her own money to buy the coins out of the till and take them home -- of course, the coins still aren't worth more than face value but she likes having a little pile of old-style coins.

You may want to check on the value of the old Mickey Mouse piggy bank -- there's something that might be worth money!

The bank will definitely take them and will give you face value for them. You're not likely to get more than face value from a collector, but you might check with a coin shop or on ebay.

Thanks for the input! I did a little more research online and did not see anything extraordinary about these coins (they're all dated between 1971 and 79), so I'll probably take them to the bank. Who knew that the money I saved as a kid would help me take MY kids to Disney?

A friend of mine also did this. he liked having coins to go to the Local Renaissance festival with. Made it look like he had a LOT more money than he really did. ))
