Received a call tonight that claimed to be from DVC. They had several nights to meet with current DVC owners to talk about lowering maintenance fees. The whole call just seemed weird. has anyone else received a simiiar call? Wasn't sure if it was legit? Were they going to try and sell more points direct? Was it a scam by another Timeshare and had nothing to do with DVC?

People report similar calls from time to time.

They got that you own DVC from the Orange County Tax office.

They’re trying to get you to pay thousands to dump DVC.

Ignore them, it’s a scam.

Was the area code/phone number a match for Orlando or Burbank? If it was a toll-free area code, it was almost guaranteed to be a scam. And when you say they had several nights to meet...do you mean in person...at a Disney location? Because they sure aren't going to meet somewhere not on Disney property, that would cost them $. It really sounds like a scam or a way to try to get info from you. With deeds being a matter of public record, and being able to be accessed on the internet, it really is easy for scammers to get our contact info.

That would never come from DVD! Consider it a scam & move on.

Thanks. I was pretty sure it was a scam. The number was an Iowa number and the meetings were in different cities in Iowa. Didn't make sense that DVC would have any meetings here. They would want to do them at a DVC roperty. Clearly a scam.

All calls we have received from DVC showed an ID saying it was Disney Vacation Club. And I agree with others they wouldn't meet with just few people to lower dues, it that was even possible.

All these silly telemarking calls are annoying! We don’t answer any phone calls that we don’t recognize the number. If it is important, they will leave a message. Can’t even be that certain with Caller ID these days. Some IRS scam impersonators have spoofing or something similarcto that where the caller id indicates IRS, so sick they try to take advantage of the elderly by demanding payment and saying that they will be deported, put in jail etc. Sick!>:( Local and National news during tax season warn taxpayers all the time about the fact that IRS will only communicate by postal mail.:scared1:

Yes, we had a slew of these calls for 2-3 weeks last month. We never answer unless we know the number, so all these scam calls were recorded, and I could simply delete them. They said things like, ". . .to keep you out of jail, call now. . ." and ". . .federal agencies have been notified and warrants for your arrest FOR THIS (emphasis mine) is happening. . ." and the best one, ". . .the police in your local area are seeking to arrest you. . ." :scratchin First, I've done nothing for which to be arrested including dodging taxes (though I wish I could). Second, using the phrase "for this" is very vague, and at no time did they ever say exactly what it was for. Third, they wouldn't call in the first place and if they did, certainly wouldn't say "police in the local area" vice "the _____ County sheriff's department has been. . ." Sadly, I'm sure they snare thousands of people who can't see beyond the deception. Despicable humans who traffic this sort of scam.

Yeah yeah. sleepydog is right. I have received many similar calls since few months ago. I also read hundreds of reports and warnings filed by people at sites like whycall.me and even at FTC.gov. We should be very familiar with these scam calls, and keep spreading the word.

New one going around where someone speaking in an Asian language (korean/chinese....etc.) is yammering on a recording. We just laugh and hang up. Apparently is it some sort of scam targeting Asians....saw it on the news recently. Best advice, don't answer phone if you don't recognize the number and they will leave a message if from a legit business. IRS NEVER calls as a first contact demanding payment. There are so many timeshare scams around it is hard to keep up with all of them.

I was pretty sure it was a scam. Your posts have just confirmed what I thought.
I really doubted that DVC would have meetings around the US to lower maintenance fees.
Didn't make sense.

OT, but I can't help myself. We've also been getting those calls lately and I did answer one as caller ID indicated a local TN. Gruff voice said since I failed to report for jury duty, they were sending out a County sheriff's deputy to arrest me unless I paid the $$$$ fine immediately (wanted my banking info to take money). I told him that my husband was gone for the day and I was lonely and could he please send a cute one. He hung up. :( :confused3:confused3

That is THE BEST, LOL:dance3:::yes::

I got a few calls like that, but it was several years ago. I just said I wasn't interested, but I never did figure out exactly what they were trying to say. I just knew I wasn't going to be attending any meeting. I'm busy enough and I am mostly happy with DVC.

Personally, I screen all my calls and have a habit of not answering when I don't recognize the number. But, sometimes I feel like I should just pick up with the hope of getting one of these and have a little fun with it like you did!
