I know there was a thread on this a while back, but I can't find it so I thought I'd start a new one. I was looking through my daughter's class list and I noticed she has one girl in her class whose name is Katie-Scarlett. That is her first name. Hmmm, I wonder what movie is her mom's favorite??

My youngest dd's name is Teagan Rae. That's her first and middle name. I had a women at the store the other day tell me that her name is bizarre. I have been told it was unique or interesting but that was a first. It is an ancient Irish name, and my dh's family is Irish so we wanted and Irish name.

My son's name is Ian, and I can't believe the number of people who have never heard of the name before. They want to pronounce it with a long i, or they will ask me how to spell it. I thought Ian was a common name.

I don't think Teagan is odd at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it is on the Social Security list of the top 1000 names. Ian is definately on there.
Katie-Scarlett. That is funny, because she is hardly referred to as Katie-Scarlett in the movie. Perhaps a bit more in the book?

I went to high school with a London Bridge. That is first and last name. Now why would anyone do that to a child?

Maybe she liked it too, I don't know.... I just thought that was bizarre! :confused3

My daughter's name is Rhiannon, which might not be universally unusual, but where I live it is.

Someone came in once and got a library card for her daughter Enola Gay (name of airplane that dropped the atomic bomb, I think.) Wonder if she grew up to get bombed on Friday nights?

My name isn't strange, but I am named after characters in a book. My name is Amy Beth. My mom's favorite book is Little Women.

I know two girls named Wynter Green.

When I was in high school I had an early childhood class in which we volunteered in local elementary schools. There was a little girl there named Cinnamon Twist.

My mom taught middle school for 32 years and she and he friend taught twin boys. Lemonjello and Orangello. Not a joke. Seriously their named. Pronounces La-mon-gelo and Au-ran-gela but spelled like Lemon Jello and Orange Jello.

My mom also taught and Christmas Snow and a December Snow.

In elementary school I knew a girl named Sparkle Edwards and and girls named Crystal Waters.

I love different names.

:goodvibes That's kind of cute.

Two sisters who live locally are called Ophelia and Cresseida.

I went to school with a girl called Heidi Doody.

yep me too! my ds6 is ian, and people constantly want to spell it ean, or pronounce it i- an, drives me nuts. how simple can ian get??

I never met him, but there was a guy listed in the student directory whose name was Bud Weiser. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think it's because Ian Ziering pronounced his name I-an.
I had never heard it pronounced like that before him. After hearing it that way a bunch of times on Entertainment tonight, I bet a lot who were not familiar with the name before think that's the usual pronounciation.

When I worked in schools, there was one family where they dad was named Lyle. He had his son, Lyle Jr. and then his daughters, Lyline, Lylette and Lylily.
There was another family whose first DD was Brandy and the other children were named for other alcoholic beverages. I don't remember all the names, but I know one was named Korbel (a brand of brandy).

Is this one on Snopes.com?

If you google these two names, it seems that they were in so many schools.

Not doubting you at all, just always wanted to know the real story behind The Jellos :rotfl: :rotfl:

It's not as much the strange names here in Mississippi as it is that every child has either a hyphenated name or a last name as his/her first name.

Last night, for example, Mary Lexis and Anna Russell spent the night at our house. All the girls seem to have a very feminine first name with a family name added on to the end. And moms call them by the full name rather than just the first name.

If a child is not fortunate enough to have a hyphenated name, then he/she has a traditional last name for his/her first name. Here are a few names from our kids' school: McGinney, Bentley, Chadwick, Hudson, Campbell, Warner, Wythe, Sterling, Theron, Harper, and Chatham. I guess it's the Old South traditions that never die....

Because there are people who pronounce Ian with along I and people who spell Ian like Ean. I know all three myself. I also know an Iain.

if we were going to have another dd we were going to name her Oceanna London

And dd Autumn-Veronas name was going to be Autumn Scarlett but due to our last name being Sottile, her inititals would have been A.S.S. soo not a good idea haha! We decided on Verona as in the city in Italy where Romeo and Juliett took place..
