Strange Borrowed Points Reinstatement

Over the past several days I’ve been making a reservation for next summer. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings, I made 2018 use year reservations that required me to borrow from 2019.

On Saturday and Sunday mornings, after I had cancelled the prior day’s reservation, the points I had borrowed that prior day were reinstated to the original 2019 use year, with no borrowed points transaction on my ledger.

Making the new reservation I had to go through the entire borrow process again, rather than just having to add the extra points I needed relative to the prior day’s reservation.

Here’s the ledger:

Was this weird? Is there a standard 24 hour ‘oops’ period? Was it a glitch caused by Irma leniency?

Thanks!

It is not normal. Must be related to the Irma forgiveness policy.

I'd also guess it must be something about the current forgiveness in place although the procedures for that are to email MS with your name and reservation number to get points taken out of holding. It shouldn't be happening with April 2018 reservations nor just automatically. Strange indeed!

What's particularly strange about this one is that it shows no record of the original borrowing - just a negative balance. I'd also say this wasn't a CM interaction but some glitch with the reservation system.

I just expanded the number of use years to see if it was just a display glitch, but no record anywhere of the first two times I borrowed 85 points from 2019 to make the reservation. Just a negative balance on the entries for those first two reservations. The borrowing of 102 points from 2019 to make my active reservation shows up correctly though.

Did you happen to look at your point balances after the first two times? I wonder if it never showed originally or if it did and then changed.

Keep offline records, wait and see what happens. A few years ago we had points issues in our account. After working with MS for a week with zero satisfaction I escalated to management. They determined that it was an IT problem and of course we were the first to be affected. We now keep records of all transactions and account balances.

Saturday (when I made the first change/cancellation) I took a quick look at the ledger and I recall it looking weird....missing the 85 point borrow from the previous day. But I didn't look that closely and thought it was just a glitch.

Thanks. I'm not that worried because I only have one 160 point contract. I borrowed 85 on Friday, 85 on Saturday, and 102 on Sunday. There's nowhere to go on my account to find 272 points! My upcoming reservations only shows the one for next summer.

I'd advise patience. This does sound like something they are doing because of IRMA. If it hasn't cleared up in a week or so, then I'd call.

Last October, my DH & I left early due to Matthew. It was entirely our decision - our plane was scheduled to leave just before MCO was scheduled to close and we were not sure it would actually go. We were able to get on a plane leaving one day early. I did not expect any compensation from Disney and was just so happy we were able to change our flight. A day or two after Matthew went through, I noticed that DVC had returned the last night's points - they wee in holding. I was surprised. A few days after that, the points were moved out of holding and back into current use year status. I made no calls or requests to MS. So, a very nice and unexpected gift. I tell you this just to give you some hope that they will do the same for those impacted by IRMA. They just need some time.

If my understanding is correct OP isn't in need of any correction as what is showing as borrowed now is correct for what they borrowed. The question was about having to re-borrow the points twice after borrowing them on the original reservation.

I'm afraid any "correction" is likely to cause an issue as their account is finally showing the correct info but it didn't after the first 2 borrowings.

Makes one wonder though how many people borrowed with similar incorrect point deductions and actually have more points available than they should. I'd guess there should be some sort of auditing check and balance to catch that. For OP I'd suggest keeping an eye on the account to make certain you don't get caught incorrectly in some "fix".

You got it right. I'll keep my eye out.

Thanks everybody!
