Strange Beach Club Room

Just got back from a wonderful stay, but I have a question. Has anyone else ever had a double bed (only one) and a couch (not a pull-out that I could tell)at the BC? Also there was a track in the middle of the room that looked like it had a drape on it at one point so you could divide the room. I have never seen a description of this room anywhere but am thinking they use them for convention attendees. The BC was overflow for a recent convention my husband attended.

As an aside this room also was supposed to have a cornice box over the window. The hardware was all there but no cornice box. Looked really bad. The whole room could have used a little rehab. Really would not have been happy paying big bucks to stay there if the room looked like this. Otherwise, we had a great stay. although I must say, the service at the Swan was FAR superior to that of the BC. We were VERY pleasantly surprised. I would stay at the Swan again in a heartbeat.

The parks were very uncrowded as were the BC and the Swan. We did venture over to POR on Saturday and found that to be QUITE busy.

We fastpassed Soarin' (the ride was fine - not great) and our return time was only 45 minutes later. Standby was only 20 minutes. That was at 4 p.m. They weren't even offering FP's for most of the FP rides. Test Track was a walk on as was TofT (way cool) and Rockin Roller Coaster (better this trip for some reason). We walked up to a great viewing spot for Illuminations 10 minutes before it started. (by the way, don't see what all of the fuss is about - we will never bother to see illuminations again.)

Really enjoyed Le Cellier and Palio at the Swan. DH also had great meals at BlueZoo and Shula's. My only complaint about Le Cellier was that we were seated between 2 tables with kids - yes, I know it's Disney, but the tables are SO close together (like not even enough room to squeeze between without moving a table over) that there was no way we could have a conversation - maybe they should create some adult only dining space in these restaurants. I really think that would make a huge difference. OK, no more soapbox...

that is a strange room. what dates were you there with the lines so short. how was the weather

We had a room like that in the Yacht Club, but I think we did have a king bed. I thought it was strange too, especially since I had never read anything like that on the boards. We couldn't complain too much though, we had an awesome view of the Boardwalk. :)

We were there 9/17 - 9/24. The weather was off and on. Rita gave us rain, but when the sun was out it was pretty hot. I think I would rather have the overcast light rain than the blazing sun...
Shhhh, don't tell about the light crowds!!!

We had a room at BC with a King bed, sofa, chair and wet bar on a stay a few years ago. It was arranged like a nice sitting area. I have never seen a BC room like it. It had just been refurb and looked great! There was no track like the OP mentioned .. that is weird.

I never had a room like that but once when we went with friends, my friend had a room on the second floor & it was suppose to be facing the "gardens", it was all the way down tucked in a corner. The room was much smaller than mine (up on 5th floor overlooking volley ball). She had 2 double beds & no daybed or sofa. Her deck area was nearly as big as the room! It went the enitre lenght of the room then wraped around the corner making like an "L". We were joking that I had the "nice" room but the terrible balcony (dormier..can't spell it) & she had the terrible room, but a great deck, not even a balcony. When the kids were all together playing, they played out on that deck area...

Sounds like you were staying in one of the DVC studios...WDW has a certain number that they rent out themselves along with whatever inventory the members aren't currently using.

Hey, I don't call your home names, don't call my "Home" strange! ;)

I don't think it was a studio at BCV, she did say BC. It is pretty clearly different areas. Besides the OP never said anything about the kicthenette area, pretty sure they wouldn't of missed that. Also no track in the studios. Also OP didn't think the couch was a pull out.

Studios at BCV are much better then the discribed room I think personally. :flower:

I was moreso looking @ CoolDisneyCat actual room description (wet bar, etc.); people mix them up all the time. BTW, many BCV studio rooms have a strange sort of mini-daybed (small enough for a young child - perhaps?) along w/a bed & sofa-bed.

Maybe the room is or was once used as part of a suite?

Do you happen to remember the room # so we can look at the floor plans?
I would have been upset to pay for a deluxe room & get a double bed.

Really I have never heard of this. Infact I have never been in a DVC room that was not the stanard layout in like every other DVC room. The biggest difference I have seen was at VWL when our stuido was the last room out and it didn't have a lock of, or it was conected to another studio, not a 1 bedroom. (I can't remember.) Otherwise they have all been very standard.

I think the fact that if it was DVC it would of been a different building is a good indicater that it wasn't a BCV room. OP didn't say there was a mini bar either. The DVC fridges are bigger then a standard mini bar too.

I think the room was 4552. No kitchen area. On the floorplan on the back of the door, this room looked to be the same size as all of the surrounding rooms. Just a little "different" layout. (I didn't say strange this time :) ) If we were paying for a deluxe room, I would have asked to change rooms as hubby is 6'4" and the double bed thing gets old fast.

I have read about the King Sico rooms on Allears, but never about this type of room. (Would have been nice to have a King....) Anyway, I was just curious, but we had a great time in the very uncrowded world. As a matter of fact, we went to the Yacht Club Galley one morning for breakfast and walked by the Cape May Character Breakfast. There were probably 4 tables with people at them. It was a little early, and when we came back there were actually a couple of strollers in the hall, but still very empty. It was great.

We didn't get to try Storm Along Bay. It closes too early in the evening. Not sure what time, but I know by 8:30 pm it was all shut down. I put my had in to test the water - very nice.

sanibelover - I like different! I hate double beds and I'm a good foot shorter than 6'4", always wake up with feet hanging off the bed...can't imagine how anyone taller would manage to get a good night's sleep. We had an early dinner @ the Yaughtsman in February; pool was cheek to jowl...hard to imagine all those folks were staying onsite.

The AllEars site has hundreds of pictures posted of the rooms & amenities for each resort & villa. You can see the small bench/day bed in the pictures. But, the room occupancy is still the same - 4.

Only other thing I can think of is a handicapped accessible room. I know the bathroom is set up differently, but don't think the rest of the room is different.

I can't figure it out. I looked at this floor plan & it looks like it should have been a "normal" room.

There are a few oddball rooms at teh BC. We had one in August of 2002 (?).

We got there very late, it was probably the last room they had left. It had a single queen bed, the room was about 30% smaller than the average BC room, and it had no balcony. It had a single window and overlooked a roof, if you looked straight out you saw the back of a facade.

In all honesty, at 3:30 AM I didn't really care, and it was only for one night. But I paid rack rate for that room, and had I not been leaving the next day, I would have demanded they move me to a "real" room. That room was more like servants quarters. I guess had I been given a substantial discount (at least 50% under rack) I might have considered it, but they really have no right to be renting that to people, especially at rack rate. It was NOT one of the king sico rooms, either.
