Hi,

Just read another post about UK straighteners not working in the US...is that right? If so, don't they work at all, or just not as well?
Dd and I need our straighteners, but don't really want to have to buy some in the US!

when I went last year my electric straightners would not work at all, just wouldn't heat up, I guess it's to do with a lower voltage. Your best option is probably to get gas powered ones that don't need the electricity? or buy some cheap ones while you're there, or just blow dry your hair straight instead!

You need to check the power input for any electrical item, things that heat up tend to need 240v unless they are specifically made for travel.
Somewhere on the cable or plug it should say either 240v input only meaning it will only work on the UK 240v system or 110~240V meaning it will work on the US 110v system as well as ours.

They say 230v~50-60hz 45w not sure what that means though!

230v is UK/European voltage for the US it needs to say 100v or 110v, usually multi voltage items say 100v - 250v or thereabouts.

As Claire says it means they won't work.
If you look at your mobile phone charger or camera charger etc they will say something like 100~250v or 110~240v etc
Anything with only 230v or 240v will not work on a 110v system (US)
