Great updates. The tofu at sci-fi looks quite nice (shame the rice was bland though), I always like to see some unique veggie options rather than the standard pasta dish.

We LOVE doing that! Its something with the soft potato and the spices with the sweet syrup. Its sooo good!

It was a shame that the rice was bland, but the tofu itself was fantastic. It definitely was not the run of the mill pasta with veggie dish.

We were very skeptical on trying the Rose & Crown. After all, it doesn't get RAVE reviews on the dis, nor is it rarely booked up, but it was either this, San Angel, or Nine Dragons. Lets just say that I had no choice.
We had reservations for lunch in December, and boy we were hungry. I think we showed up 30 minutes before our reservation time, and lucky us, we got in fairly early.
Right away I was charmed by the inside of the restaurant. It was so lovely inside!
And from our table:
Isn't it calming? The dark woods and the knick-knacks provided a very welcoming atmosphere. We were seated at a four-top, which allowed us to have some elbow room, and in retrospect, I don't remember being right next to our neighbors at all. Our server was, I believe, Sara Jane, and she was absolutely delightful. She was cheery, made suggestions, and chit-chatted without being overly sweet.
After placing our orders, we were handed a basked of rolls with cheese on top.
These were okay. The texture and taste was very nice, but they were cold. And I don't mind room temperature bread, but cold bread is not good at all. It inhibits the taste, plus makes the butter barely spreadable, and you need lots of butter!
While we were waiting for our entree's, we looked around and saw a bunch of people getting fish and chips, which is what Dustin ordered. Those things were absolutely huge! As long as your forearm! So when Dustin saw it he points and whispers, "What is that? It looks like a fried strip." Having seen it on the boards previously, I said back, "That is your meal, my dear."
Then right then, our entree's actually came out, and the look on his face was priceless!
Dustin's Fish & Chips. You can't see the chips because they are buried under the huge fish! He promptly took away the cup of tarter sauce and asked for more ketchup, because like I said, he hates mayonnaise based sauces. Dustin said that it was the best fried food that he has ever had. Well, i don't know if that is saying something since he only eats french fries, fried seafood, and chicken nuggets/strips. But still, he said it was moist and good.
I ordered the vegetable curry with grains and naan bread. I didn't know this until later, but apparantly what I chose was a popular traditional dish in the UK. But I didn't learn that until later, because when I ordered it I asked, "Why is curry on the menu?" Sara Jane just giggled and said, "You must be the hundredth guest that has asked me that. Apparantly, it was brought over by british conolists from India a couple hundred years ago. And she advised that it was quite spicy, so beware.

It was not that spicy at all. Well, not to me, who loves spicy foods. I can eat a jalapeno without tears, eat wasabi and fireball sauces from sushi and not blink (well maybe a little). Anyway, to me it tasted warm and smooth. The curry was full-bodied, and the grains were so wonderful! It was actually somewhat sweet tasting when you eat the grains with the curry. I also enjoyed the bread that came with it, authentic naan bread that is chewy, yet flavorful. The only part that I wasn't too keen on? The vegetables! They were not cooked enough so they were a little hard. At least they weren't mushy, blegh.
Okay, now dessert. Ya see. This was special.
Dustin ordered the guiness flourless cake.
He loved it. It was soft, chocolately with a taste of alcohol but not too strong, and with a smooth buttery texture. The only thing he didn't eat was the cherries. I had a taste and it was good, but could not compare at all to mine....
Meet Sticky Toffee Pudding. The best dessert I have ever had. The custard was smooth, warm, full-bodied, tasted better than any pudding you have ever had. The cake itself (or actually, the pudding!), was spiced so it reminded you of thanksgiving day, and very moist but had a bite. And the rum butterscotch sauce was to die for, it made everything taste like caramel. The result when eaten together? I nearly toppled out of my seat it was so good. And Dustin agreed, this thing was delectable. Needless to say, there was nothing left. I highly advise you to go to Rose & Crown just for the sticky toffee pudding, it was that delicious.
On another day, in January, it was Dustin's birthday and we had just eaten at Le Cellier... but he wanted sticky toffee pudding--bad! So we walked up and asked if we could just have a quick table for some dessert. Score! We were called in about 10 minutes later and just ordered sticky toffee pudding. One for each of us, of course.
But this time, we were lead outside and the view was just beautiful.
No not you, silly!
There we go! I imagine that if you get a table for illuminations, you will have a wonderful time. And that is just what we are planning on doing in September! I can't wait for that!
Anyway, we came for sticky toffee pudding, and we gladly recieved it...
Mine... it looks a little deformed haha, but it was scrumptious, again!
Dustin's was picture-perfect!
It was again, the best dessert we have ever had. And again, I highly recommend it!
Up next, Columbia Harbour House and Tony's Town Square Lunch x2! The update might be up tomorrow or the next day, depending on my school work again. Have a good day, and GO see The Dark Knight! It was the best movie I have ever seen!

You & Dustin look like you have a lot of fun together & I love to see that! Well, the ultimate grilled cheese got to me yesterday. Now I'm craving some curry and naan. We may have to head over to Dale's Indian Cuisine for dinner tonight.

If you like sticky toffee pudding send me a PM with your email and I'll send you my recipe. Generally speaking I don't go around chatting up my mad kitchen skillz but if I do say so myself, my STP is way better than anything you've had at Rose and Crown. Even Grimace says mine is better.

Just wanted to say I'm enjoying your food report, especially about the Food & Wine Festival- my husband and I are going for my birthday this year!

I have really been enjoying reading your reviews. You and your DBF look like you have so much fun !! I saw that you posted a ton of pictures on the food porn thread and have a question for you regarding the trip you took at dbf's b-day. We are leaving in four days 
and it will be my DH's b-day while we are there. The night before his offical b-day we are having dinner at Coral Reef - I have the diver set up and a personal menu. Then on his offical b-day we are eating at Yachtsman Steakhouse - on this adr I just asked the CM to make note that it was DH's b-day. Anyway, my question is I saw that when you went they had marked every day as your dbf's b-day, did he enjoy this or did it seem to get old. I know free dessert- probably dumb question. I just keep wondering if I should call back and ask them to make some more notes about his b-day or leave it alone, so that it doesn't seem overdone. Also let me say, we on on the deluxe dining for 12 days and we will be getting to choose a desert with every meal. 
When they brought the b-day birthday surprise was it a dessert not avaiable on the menu ? Okay not that I have wrote a book and asked 100 questions- I turn it over to you !!!
