Straight out of Anticipation---Reviews from Previous Trips...with Pics! Updated 7/17!

Hey everyone!

You may have already seen these pictures before. Or perhaps you have not. Whichever the case, I just cannot wait for my next long trip in September so I rummaged through all of my food pics and now I am going to review everything my dbf and I ate by looking at the pics and remembering.

Not only will this ease my anticipation (and boredom!) but I hope it will help some dis'ers out with planning. I know that whenever I read reviews, no matter how many times I have seen the pictures or read previous ones, it helps me. So, I hope it helps you!

The cast:

Me, Sarah-- I am a senior at Florida Atlantic University, majoring in English. Will always wear my hair in a ponytail while at Disney. I love ANY food, but I am a pescetarian and a pretty strict one at that. I am extremely adventerous and I adore spices and exotics.

Dbf, Dustin-- He is a senior at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, majoring in Media Arts and Animation. He is calm, sweet, patient, and a major influence in my life. We have been going out for 4 years this December and we are waiting for our graduation to start our lives. Anyway... He is a VERY picky eater. Hates ANY vegetables, fruits, and mayonnaise based sauces. But, at the same time he is quite adventerous because of me! He loves sweets and meat. If he had a chance to, he would eat just candy and chocolate chip cookies every day.

Okay, got internet in line. Check! Got photobucket opened in the tab browser... check! Lets start with Food and Wine Booths, 2007.

Dustin and I went to the F&W festival in 2006.... but we didn't know that we were! We walked into Epcot, did all of our future world stuff and then when we walked over to the world showcase I see a booth selling florida shrimp.

I go to dustin, "Umm shrimp? Is that new?"

And he rolls his eyes and says, "What? oh shrimp...... yummm "

So we try the shrimpies, and with our palates revved up we decide to hightail it to Norway for some sandwiches and pastries. On the way there, we see two more booths. We look at each other and say "Oookay. What the heck?"

Then we see the mexico booth and Dustin says "Quesadilla! Its the only mexican food I like! I want one!"

Okay by then my mind was rolling and I was like What is up? So i ask the CM and they go "Well its the food and wine festival. Its been going on for a month now."

Ohhhhhhhh yeah! So thats why there were topiaries and whatnot! Duh. And then we fell in love. So we returned last year, and will want to return this year as well. Okay and now we start for 2007 food boths. We start off with some lovely chocolates........

Now the first booth we see is the Champagne booth:

And we order the Duo of Chocolate Truffles for 3.50. It comes like this:

Pretty, right? And the actual chocolates:

Looks pretty pathetic for 3.50, huh. Well it was overpriced, but they were the best truffles I have ever had. I had the dark one because dark is more my thing, and dustin loves milk chocolate, so he had that one. It was so smooth, silky, and rich.


Next Dustin saw this sign:

And wanted the Papas con Chorizo. He loves sausage, and especially potatoes so it was a no brainer.

He did not like it very much. First of all, it was extremely spicy--and he is kind of a wimp for spicy foods. Next, it had BARELY any potatoes. Tons of spicy chorizo, but had one measly chunk of potatoes. I think they overcooked the batch, which probably distinegrated the potatoes to mush.

Next, he wanted something to cool down his mouth and we came upon...

For some Caramel Ginger Ice Cream

This was delicious! It was creamy, spicy, sweet from the caramel, yet almost savory in its ginger flavoring. Perfect for a hot day too. I think I have seen it at Lotus Blossom Cafe for a snack credit too. We will probably get this in September to stave off the heat. I recommend it for you guys too!

Next we go back to spicy because I love Indian food and what a coincidence! The indian booth!

I order the Samosa with Tamarind Sauce.

This was aight, dawg. Now, I love samosas, especially ones with vegetables, and this one did have tons of spicy vegetables that was seasoned nicely. However, the outer pastry part was soggy, especially on the bottom where it was almost cold, where the rest was just room temperature. The tamarind sauce was salty and tasted great, but it was ice cold and didnt help the limp temperature of the samosa itself. Oh well.


Next is Italy, where I love the mozzarella, and Dustin hearts anything pizza.

I order the Insalata Caprese and Dustin ordered the Pizza.

The insalata caprese was very refreshing. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy, the mozzarella was soft, salty, and slightly chewy, even though the pesto was pretty tasteless and more like an afterthought (an ugly one at that--too much oil, not enough basil/herbs) than an intergration.

Dustin LOVED the pizza! He picked off the bell peppers before he ate it and then nothing, just yumms coming from him while he ate. Well, he likes any pizza so if its soft and cheesy, he will eat it. Just like Michealangelo from TMNT.

Sorry about the delay, we had a huge thunderstorm yesterday that threw our internet and brakers out of wack.

Okay, on with the rest of the 2007 food booths that we visited!

Dustin and I are Japanophiles. Yes, we are the weirdos that watch anime all through the night and read manga while at Barnes and Noble (does anyone else have dates at barnes and noble?!) and even though we are reformed (meaning we dont center it around our lives as much anymore), we still like to consider ourselves lovers of anything Japanese.
So suffice to say, our favorite pavilion in epcot is the Japan pavilion. I also like to torture Dustin with random facts about Japanese cooking and preparation. So who am I to not allow us to go with giddy when we saw this sign:

I was a little upset that they weren't serving any traditional items besides sushi. But I was happy that they had spicy tuna roll and a beef roll for Dustin. Now, remember when I told you that Dustin was picky? Well he LOVES sushi! And raw ones at that! Weird huh? And it was all because of me....

Dustin ordered the Crispy Sukiyaki Beef roll with Takara Plum Wine, and I ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll.

It was so goooood. The spicy tuna roll was not too spicy and the tuna was buttery soft and melted in my mouth. The avocado wasn't mushy but had some bite left to it and it paired so nicely to the rice (which was NOT squished, by the way). And Dustin said the beef roll was "crispy, yet the meat was tender, and it tasted fresh" he also said it was warm. Oh and he loves plum wine. He will only drink alcoholic drinks if it is sweet to the umpth degree (which is why he loves the Grand Manier Slushies), and the plum wine satisfied that.

Next, we travel to france, home of the snails and quiche. Well, apparantly that is what epcot WANTS you to think about france, since they had basically the SAME items both years (and probably will this year, too). But I traipsed over to the france booth to have me some quiche. Yes, I admit, I caved into the homogonized french menu... because I LOVE goat cheese!

And it looked like this...

Looks good right? Well... it was. It was creamy from the goat cheese, had a bite from the tomatoes, and the crust was cooked perfectly. Only problem? I wish it were warm! Not cold!

Okay, next is our neighbors, Canada. When it was around dinner time, we saved ourselves for this land. Why? So we can make a meal out of their wonderful salmon and maple custard....

We went back twice. Both times we each ordered the Maple Glazed Salmon with Arugula and Roasted Corn and the Maple Custard topped with Almond Crumble.

Yum yum yum yum. I am sorry for sounding so... amatuer. So juvenile. So untamed. But, this was our favorite last year and the year before that. The salmon was still pink in the middle, not overcooked at all (you see that, TGI Fridays!!?) and the maple glaze was sweet and savory at the same time. The maple custard was like creme brulee's bottom, but the almond crumble on top was even better than creme brulee's top! Yum

Lastly we visit the country of the Dominican Republic (I think) where in the Dominican Republic (I believe) I sample some vegetarian casserole... in the Dominican Republic (I hope!). Why am I so iffy about the Dominican Republic?
Because they didn't put up a sign indicating what country it was!! So I had to look at the Festival booklet to see which country was missing from our pictures. And the Dominican Republic was left.
See?

I was upset that their Mofongo had pork cracklings in it, since I live in south florida and I have eaten mofongo many times before where it was just mashed plaintains with shrimp. Now why did they have to mess it up for me with some pork cracklings? Oh well, it was probably good to those who didn't care.
So, I ordered the Pastelon de Platanos Amarillos (sorry, I don't have the accent marks!).

This was my least favorite of the F&W festival. The flavors where there! But the plaintains were HARD. I had to chew chew chew. And I know plaintains. Also, the cheese was not melty anymore, so it was this greasy thick skin that sat ontop.


Okay. That is all for the F&W festival of 2007. Next up, Boma Breakfast--the best breakfast buffet on property!

Love your pics! We went to the F&W many moons ago (we go every single year) and remember that France had coqcoqvan (sp??) and it was to die for!

I wish I tried the mofongo last year but I had no idea what it was until I saw Diners Drive Ins and Dives on the FoodTV...they featured a place in Miami that made it many different ways and I was drooling!

I hope they bring it back for 2008

Yes, mofongo is yum! The dominican republic's mofongo was made with mashed yuca instead of plaintains though. I guess thats another reason why I didn't try it. And I saw that special too! It made me want to drive to miami to try it!

Attack of the Boma! Rarr! They should make this a scene at the Sci-Fi, because boy, Boma rocks every time Dustin and I go. In fact, we are staying at the AKL just so we can have the convienence of rolling out of our beds and eating at Boma. Yum, what a dream!

So we first went there in december of 2006, from a recommendation of a CM who operated the Kali River Rapids ride. There was a delay in the ride so we were talking to the guy about how we just had an ice cream bar. He goes into his favorite foods in DW, then mentions Boma. I said that I read about it in guide books and briefly online, specifically allears and wdwinfo. So we made an ADR for that night, curious about Boma. Let me just tell you, it was so delicous. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures or a review of that dinner (the breakfast review is coming later in this post!), but I do have a picture of Dustin being very happy:

So after going to boma twice more in different trips, we decided to try their breakfast. And lo and behold, it is the best breakfast we have had on Disney property (and still continues to be).

We arrived on time, I believe it was around 9:30 or so. The place was PACKED. If you have a chance to go to Boma, get their earlier where you can have something more quieter.

Here is the waiting area. It is very dark and mood-inspiring.

I call this "Action-Dustin... aka Dragon Ball Z/Pokemon Style"

And finally, Boma itself!

Its a lovely setting, and it is even more so if you get a table near the large open windows. The sun shines right on your table and combined with the frunch, it is very awakening.

Dustin didn't think he would like the frunch, since the only juice he likes is apple juice and pulp-free orange juice. But, I persauded him, and i think he had 6 glasses during breakfast! I restrained myself with 3. It kind of tastes like a pineapple orange juice... with a little bit like a pina colada. Weird description, I know, but it was very refreshing.

Okay, the food. Now, I am sorry that most of them we forgot to take pictures until we are half-done with the plates. Yeah yeah, i personally am turned off when I see half-eaten food pics... but I still remember what items we ate!

My first plate had a chocolate croissant (buttery, but not enough chocolate), a banana nut muffin (moist, and thankfully not too big), some potatoes with afritude (yummm), really delicious waffles that were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and THE BEST french toast I have ever had. It was made from brioche and had raisins as well as cinnomon baked through. It was soooo good. I think I took 3 pieces of that. Also not shown was the silkiest, smoothest, tastiest eggs on Disney property you will ever have.

Dustin's first plate was practically the same, except he did not have the french toast, but had sausage and bacon. He LOVED the sausage. I think he called it "big honkin links". I guess thats how he likes it!

I then got an omelet with every vegetable item they had to go into it. You can get your eggs made to order any way you want, with an egg-white omelet or "whole" eggs. I also have big juicy strawberries there.

Also not shown is a bowl of pap. Just imagine the tastiest bowl of grits ever. Well, pap is like that, but creamier. Drool.

Sorry the picture is a little over-exposed. Anyway, dustin then got breakfast ham (he loves pork products, I am afraid that he has a little emeril in him), plain bagel with cream cheese, and a croissant. I think he got a chocolate croissant, but he gobbled that before I got a chance to take a picture.

Yes, we had another plate!

Here we have oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins in the bowl for me, which I did not like because I was used to the packaged instant stuff, some pap for both of us... yummm. And finally, some of the french toast for dustin which he did not speak a word while eating.

If you guys have a chance to, GO to Boma's breakfast! My only regret over our September trip is not having a chance to go there twice! We just couldn't fit it in because Dustin wants to try Crystal Palace the other morning we are free.

Yay! Up next is the infamous Dole Whip float/Dole whip pinapple soft serve///Dole whip plain ol' vanilla chocolate swirl and why I believe that it lives up to its name. Also look out for Pop Century breakfast. The good. And the scary rubber egg BAD.

Thank you for the great review of Boma. We are going there in Sept for breakfast and it is nice to know they have " all white egg omelets" since my DH can't have yokes, they make him sick. Thanks for saying that in your review.
