"straight" attraction?

I 'm out in my workplace, and as far as I know, I'm the only lesbian out there. What happens is that it seems some married women there are "attracted" to me or to the idea of realizing a fantasy. Some of them are very forward about this, some are subtle, but I have talked to some of them and they say that this has never happened to them before, which is hard for me to believe. I don't know if this matters but I'm not the "bucht lesbian type", I'm very femenine, so not too much people can tell just by taking a look at me.I have to admit that I did got involved with one a couple of years ago, and I still feel something's out there between us, but I'm not acting on it. I'm in a 5 years fully and commited relationship, but guess with who? with my former best friend who was..... Yeah, you guessed right STRAIGHT, being me the only woman she has been with. Has this or something like this happened to you? I would love to hear your stories/ reactions to this.
Do you think straight women are more open to "experiment" with "our side" than men?

I would think women are more open to experimentation because -and I may get flack over this- being a lesbian is slightly more accepted than being a gay man. *braces for thrown objects* Both are still difficult. And lesbians are more acceptable for all the wrong reasons. But I still hold that men are less likely to stray. It's just society. As seen on a bumper sticker on my way to work in DC this week: "I only support gay marriage if both chicks are hot".

I just went through an extremely rough time with my best guy friend...and don't want to start crying at work...but wanted to say a huge CONGRATS to you. It's a wonderful thing when your best friend becomes your lover. I'm so happy for you and everyone who gets to experience it.

I saw an episode of "The Stacey Silverman Program" or whatever it's called on Comedy Central. I will have to say I have seen lots of this behavior in women, but very little of it in men. No clue why this would be

Hi prgirl My grandmother lives in San German.

Sacred feminine was a term made popular in the Da Vinci code. But it's really a pagan/wiccan term. It is meant to express that women are connected and somehow understand each other better, perhaps on a bigger / semi-spiritual level. It is used to explain things such as women living together being on the same hormonal cycles, etc. Most of my lesbian friends describe something similar to this; many seem to think it's part of being a woman.

What a GREAT thread!!!! Personally, I'm so old now that it is pretty much a moot point but...
I have been very happily married to a man for 30+ years ( YES -- completely monogamously*** ) but I'm thinking that if that silly girl that I was in those days, had met a woman that I could have loved deeply and who loved me deeply in return, I could just have just as easily entered into a lesbian relationship...
Please don't flame me here guys -- but is it possible that women are just a little more open to possibilities than men are? I noticed the Kinsey scale cropped up in another thread here. All I can say is EEEEEEUUUUWWWW!!!!! IMHO -- That was one creepy movie -- and maybe living the unexamined life has something to be said for it after all. Don't get me wrong -- libido is groovy but love totally trumps it.

I don't think there is a simple answer or a segregated well defined "reason" for the situation described. I think women, as a rule, are much more curious and willing to act on that curiosity than men are. I think women do have a connection based on gender, but that for the vast majority, that (intuitive?) connection is overridden by overarching heterosexual society. I may even go so far as to think that the process of evolution is more pronounced in women and they are reaching for the next evolutionary level, parthenogenesis (making heterosexuality extraneous). Ok, ok, that last bit is just a teeeeeeny bit far fetched. I also think, many more women (yep, and men) would act on their natural tendency for homosexuality, if the oppressive nature of society weren't so very overwhelming.

Nothing neat, clean or tidy about those ramblings, eh?

Tuck, it was I who mentioned the scale...I didn't know it was in a movie? And I think I have the name wrong? It describes what percentage of the population is attracted to what percentage of the same gender?

BTW -- Kinsey (the 2004 film) totally destroyed my celebrity crush on Liam Neeson. (very sad) No doubt about it -- Alfred Kinsey did important and courageous work for his time. BUT... the transition from bug scientist to peoples' juicy parts scientist should maybe have been a little longer leap that it was portrayed in the movie.

I guess a s a group we get it both ways. There are the straight women out there who come to the clubs to see what it is like and then there are those who come with a friend that they cling to because they are afraid we might eat them alive…..


There is a whole other side of this as well. I have many friends who are only attracted to straight women. They keep dating them, keep getting their hearts broken and they continually cant figure out why they are not happy in life.


So I guess I have no answers other than I have learned my lesson and will never date another straight girl again (even if they are fun)

I had the occasion to talk to a man who was dating the owner of a gay porn theater with a room upstairs for extracurricular activity. Although I saw the theater (they also did live plays there) I couldn't go upstairs as it is no girls allowed. The theater is very close to a yuppy neighborhood in Chicago. He told me that all the husbands arrive about 2am after sneaking out of the house.
So, I think more straight women "date" gay women, straight men are also attracted to gay men, and act on it, but in different ways.

I won't pretend that this makes me any expert on the subject, but I have dated both sexes. The fact that I have dated men just makes me more certain that I am a lesbian.

While most double standards work against women -- in everything from sex to driving errors -- homosexuality is the one time that I think women get a better break than men. The only prejudice against lesbians seems to be that we aren't relying upon men for our identity and not what we are doing physically because women are more affectionate with each other as heterosexuals so I think lesbianism may seem more natural to people, even people who don't like to see homosexuality in either sex.
