Family is planning a II trip to Stowe in Vermont. Anyone ever been in January??

We were there in early September and really liked it - Topnotch has an indoor pool and spa - Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour is close enough to visit.

This may be a dumb question but, do you plan on skiing? Stowe has fabulous downhill and cross-country skiing. However, if you're not into winter sports it is very, very cold to do much else at that time of year. The Ben & Jerry Factory is worth a visit and Burlington is not very far away either. This is a wonderful city with University of Vermont and other colleges adding to the fun flavor of the downtown. Montreal is also only about 1 1/2-2 hours away. The only consideration in all this is that snow can make travel in January a lot different than travel in June. Not sure which resort you are considering but the Trapp Family Lodge is terrific.

Stowe in January is totally dependant on the weather. It can be extremely cold or unusally mild. Winter carnival is toward the end of Jan, with many events that are fun to join. Snowgolf is my favorite as well as the Stowe Derby, a race from the top of Mt. mansfield to the village run on skis. Great town with incredible dinning and entertainment options. If you Ski or Snowboard, you'll love it. Average trail lenght is over a mile with a heated gondola, high speed quad and some of the most incredible terrain. If a local likes you, they might show you some of the off piste terrain(if your lucky). The cross country skiing cannot be beat. Just head to the Trapp Family Lodge, put on your skiis and go for hundreds of miles of connecting trails. At the end of the day the Matterhorn on the mountain road (Just up the road from where you'll be) is the place to start your Apres Ski with munchies and happy hour. Enjoy:smooth: :D

P.S. If you see a Big old guy with a white beard on a snowboard, don't forget to wave.
