Has any one heard about the DVC Timeshare 9/11 USA MICKEY ICON PINS.

Shortly after 9/11 the DVC mailed out to some of its members the 9/11 pin which looks similar to the USA MICKEY ICON Pin they sell in the parks, but it has smaller stars, and a 9/11 dedication on its back.

The pins were supposedly not authorized to be manufactured and I even heard a few people at DVC lost their jobs over it.

They were being mailed 2 to each owner in the DVC Club.

At the time, my boss got 2 and he gave me one.

Quickly DVC stopped the mailings and destroyed over half of the remaining pins to be mailed.

Does anyone know more about this story, and the current value of the 9/11 Mickey Icon USA Pins?

I have two of these pins. I really like them but don't intend to wear them because I don't want to lose them. I tried to do some checking into this and it seems I found they were being traded for around $75.00 a piece.

I have two.

Don't know how true it is that pins were destroyed, but I do know that hundreds, maybe thousands, went missing and were showing up at local flea market and being sold for a few bucks a piece. I was at WDW about a month after 9/11 and was with a bunch of pin collectors (and mostly CMs too) from the area who reported that.

I have a hard time believing about them not being authorized and CMs losing jobs. I would think that kind of expense and decision would only be at the executive level and it could hardly be done in secret.

But, that's just my humble opinion.

As far as the value - they are worth as much as you can get anyone to pay for them, otherwise, they are about $6.50 each retail. A quick search on eBay showed a pin listed for $30 with no bidders at the end of the auction.

The information I received was from a pin trading book that was from 2002. It had nothing but Disney Pins in it and the trade value of the pins was in the 50-75 dollar range. I have this book but not handy right now. I do know they were selling the books on DCL and that is what made me interested in looking up some of the other pins I have. I have some pins from tours, etc that you couldn't buy through regular retail channels.

Interestingly, the book also showed the trade value of Cast Member only pins. There is a whole set of pins for cast members only. Some of them are really cool and mark the openings of specific attractions - i.e., "I went to Mars first" for Mission Space or a CM pin for the first sailing of the Wonder, etc.

Thanks for posting this. I just checked my pins and realized I have two of them.

I think that value might be a bit high. I'm not a pin collector, but I've seen these listed frequently on eBay when looking for other DVC merchandise. I would swear that they don't sell for very much.

I looked quickly and found one auction that has three of these 9/11 pins with a "Buy it now" of $40 and free shipping.

I don't understand this pin trading business... but I must say, our 9/11 pins are family treasures.

Same here ... I have the card & the pins on display in my living room.

When the pins first came out, they were highly sought after and got big bucks on ebay. Now, they are probably worth about $5-$10 apiece. Look at completed auctions. Many close with no bids.

Pins fluctuate in value as with all collectibles. There are many 2000 pins which back then were very valuable and now their value is a LOT less.

We didn't get any of them and our guide knew nothing of them when we asked.

I have 2. They were only mailed to DVC members in Oct 2001. They are different than the ones they sell in the park. I have that also that I bought down there shortly after 9/11 for 6.50 . they are smaller more enamaled and say Disney DVC on the back. and I think 9/11/2001 but I don't have them in front of me now. I also have the pin trading book and you can see in it that there are 2 different pins but they look very similar..

On the back of the pin it says, " Disney Vacation Club In Remebrance September 11, 2001."

I wear it on my lanyard at work for my work ID.

I know that one Ebay sold literally hundreds of the 9/11 pins for less than $10 each. You could buy 1, 2, 5, or 10 pins. I sent this particular seller an email asking her where she got all the pins. She never replied.

Gosh, when we received our two pins, we thought it was such a nice gesture and a good bit of much needed pixie dust. If I recall correctly, they came with a card that said something like "Please come home soon."

At the time we were still in a bit of shock-- we were staying at the Mariott World Trade Center hotel (Bldg 3) the Sunday prior to the attacks and right after the attacks, my DH was laid off.

We were mailed two pins. I wear mine on Memorial Day, July 4, 9/11, and Veteran's Day.

Its funny because a vendor I meet with maybe twice a year was wearing one on his last visit. From that, I found out he was DVC too!
