Storms after Katrina

I must admit I feel a little guilty worrying about how storms are going to affect my WDW vacation when Katrina is developing into such a major hurricane. :guilty:

However, I am nervous and worried about how the weather is going to be for our trip over Labor Day weekend. Is anyone else concerned about the storm in the Atlantic that is behind Katrina?

Are there any thoughts from those of you in Orlando?

Again, I really want to send out my best wishes for those of you in the path of Katrina. I know you have a much more serious situation, and I hope everyone comes through it safely.

There are no organized tropical disturbances that have at least reach depression strength in the Atlantic behind Katrina, although there are two areas of "interest".

I am going down from Sept 2-11 and what will be, will be. Last year we were at WDW, and had to leave a day early due to Jeanne.

Everyone in the path of Katrina is certainly in my prayers....

I do understand your concern as I am going down on the 9th. I think the main corcern for the weather people is Katrina. I am praying for those in Katrina's path and hoping everyone can get out of her way.

I live in Baton Rouge, but am suppose to be flying out of New Orleans on Saturday to go to WDW. I hope we have no damge here and can get out. However, we are more concerned that all will be safe. Prayers to the coastal areas and let's hope we will be ok here, too.

I'll be leaving on the 5th and the first of the tropical waves probably won't develop into much but I'm worried about the second one. According to the weather channel it might be classified a depression tommorow and from what has happened so far this year a storm and a hurricane can't be far behind.

Hopefully Katrina will won't be bad. I'm praying for all my Southern Buddies and friends.:grouphug:

Couldn't have said it better myself. As a Florida native I have grown up with hurricanes, yet they still scare me just as much as the very first one I experienced. However, the only thing that I can say for certain is that hurricanes are probably the most unpredictable weather anomaly out there. Sure you know well in advance that it's coming, but the "who, what, when, where, and why" of it all is just one giant cr@pshoot. Hehe!

So try not to worry. I know it's easier said than done, but try not too. It's waaaayyy to early to worry about the tropical waves that are cooking in the Atlantic.

So far, so good! We have overcast skies, it has been a bit more breezy than usual (not a bad thing) and we have had some rain showers, but nothing really unusual. Best part is, the parks have not been crowded.

We are supposed to leave Tuesday afternoon and Katrina should be our way by mid morning tuesday. so far they are not saying anything about cancelling our flight but I am nervous. I'm not sure what the criteria for cancelling flights are for southwest. I sure hope everyone in it's path stay safe and selfishly I'm hoping it will just diminish and go away. Can't even begin to think about the potential storms behind this one though! My brain already hurts from watching this one :guilty:

I agree with you! I feel sooo horrible for the people in Katrina's path and sent them all my prayers in the other thread. However, it is only natural that I am worried sick over our trip now too. We leave for the 9 hour drive down to Orlando at about 1am on the 5th (just a week from now). I am so scared of having a huricane keep us from going or to be as bad as this one and flat out not be able to even get down there b/c of evacuations. This is not an every year trip for us. It will be the first trip we have been on since our honeymoon cruise (which was also effected by a huricane). We worked so hard to save for this trip and I am sure we will not be able to afford it again for a long time as dh will be laid off from his job after the first of the year and will go back to school. We did not buy trip insurance b/c it costs so much so we will loose all that money for nothing!! Anyways, so sorry to ramble on. I just mean, I feel badly for worrying about our trip but this trip means so much to us and we have so been looking foward to it and now I am so very scared of it being ruined. I hate huricanes!!! :guilty:

Hang in there DisneyBunch! I perfectly understand your feelings. It's not an every year trip for us either the free dining pushed us over the edge to go, and I put so much energy into the planning. I know it sounds trite, but try not to worry. See if you can put that energy towards other things. Hang in there!

Well-one thing is certain--predicting the path of hurricanes has not yet become an exact science. Katrina certainly shows that.
WAY WAY too soon for them to have any real idea where anything else "out there" may be headed--or when.
Hoping for the best tho!!!!

The Hurrican Expert on the Weather Channel said that there is one tropical depression formed in the Atlantic as of this morning, and another area of low presure behind it that "looks interesting." I guess we have to wait & see.

I was looking at the NOAA site this afternoon and, while I am no weatherman, what I can glean from the reports does not concern me (my trip is 9/3-9/7). The Tropical Storm is north of Bermuda and moving slowly north/northeast. It is not a threat to land and it looks like it would dissapate over the North Atlantic. The Tropical depression behind it, by my calculation, looks like it could make it to Florida no earlier than Thursday of next week, and that is assuming that it: (i) decides to head to Florida, which it has not yet done; and (ii) develops into a tropical storm or hurricane, which, also, it has not yet done.

Too many variables to get myself too worked up.

My heart, sincerely, goes out to everyone impacted by Katrina, but I do not see anything over the Atlantic right now that seems likely to impact Florida.
