A fellow DISer posted on the YC/BC/BCV FAQ thread that a CM at DVC MS told her SaB was scheduled to be closed for refurb from January through March 2009. Has anyone else heard that?

I couldn't find confirmation anywhere, and it's not posted on any refurb lists yet. I rented points to stay at BCV in January so I can't call MS myself, sorry.

I just thought maybe someone else here had been told the same thing. :goodvibes

be closed like in the next week or 2???

Thought thats where I read that thread in the Beach Club Threads..
Post the question on there..very active Resorts board.

Check it out! Good luck!:goodvibes

Yep, that's where I read January. A regular non-DVC CM informed a guest that the Beach Club's main pool would be closed in September, but it turns out the CM was confusing it with CBR's pool. One DISer called DVC MS to check on it and was told that SaB will definitely be open in September, and that's it's scheduled to go down January through March.

Was there recently 2 weeks ago..Storamalong Bay was gorgeous! Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!Awesome!

Sounds so long for what, resurface or something..I thought that SAB was impecably maintained!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Wow, will it really be closed for 3 months? Do you call the hotel directly to find out the dates?

I am interested to know myself, we will be there for a week at the end of March.

me too... I'll be there in January and don't have tickets for our entire stay and planned to hang at the pool Hope we can !

That was our idea as well:confused3 I have looked around but have not been able to find anything yet to confirm and refurb dates.

Me either. The DISer on the resorts board was given the information by MS. Is it possible they have a heads-up and received the information before other CMs? :confused3

I hope not, that would be a loooong time to close the pool.

As far back as I can remember, SAB has always been refurbished in stages. Given its size, there was never a reason to close the entire complex at one time. They would close the slide for a few weeks...then the lazy river for a few weeks...and so on.

Right now there are no refurbishments on the official schedule, but that January - March timeframe does coincide with when they typically perform maintenance work at resort pools.

I'll be there in January as well, my nieces will really be disappointed if the pool is closed during our stay. They are looking forward to using the pool.

Thank you, that alleviates my anxiety somewhat. As long as my DD had some part of the 'cool' pool to play in we'd be satisfied. While she'd love to play in all of it, some of it would be WAY better than none of it. The quiet pools just don't hold much appeal for a six year old. They're just rectangles with no slides, LOL, she can swim in that here at home. ;)

Maybe that's why the timeframe is so long? Because it's the timeframe for the entire refurbishment, a section at a time?

That sounds right to me.

The last major refurb was in 2005. It lasted 2-3 months. If memory serves, there were three distinct periods where one feature of the pool was closed while the other two remained open.

Again, there is nothing on the refurb schedule right now, but this rumor does suggest comparisons with the way they handled things back in '05.

Thank you, you've been very helpful, as usual! :goodvibes

just back from BCV and SAB is great.only downside is the lazzy river which IMHO is way too deap for even me 8 foot in places
As our kids enjoy lazzy rivers wish they would fill it in a bit so depth is no more than 4 foot deap, then we would relax a bit when there in it

Oh Man!! I was there in 2005 for that referb and I thought it was time to go back to our home next winter.... just in time for the next refurb! Just my luck!

Oh I hit the VWL one in 2007 too!

They did the BCV pool in 3 or 4 sections. The pool is actually 4 pools (I don't have the correct names); the pirate ship w/little slide, the shallow sand area, the lazy river plus a little section, and the main area with whirlpool and large slide.

The pool is actually 4 pools

Can't say that I actually realized that. But as always, Lisa knows her shtuff.

I just got off the phone with Member services and they confirmed that SAB will be closed from January until "late March"
