Stormalong Bay pool question

I've heard that the Stormalong Bay pool has a sandy bottom. Is that true? If so, is it the entire pool? Just wondering if it's comfortable, and about little kids sitting in it (messy bathing suits and no washer or dyer in the room).

Yes, there is a sandy bottom. I believe it is the whole pool. Not sure about the rafting part. They even have an area of quicksand!! It's an awesome pool. We spent as much time there as we did at the parks. Of course, it was May and 95 degrees!!

How about the comfort, though. Is the sand comfortable under foot, or is it kind of messy? One of the reasons I prefer a pool to a beach is because there's no messy sand-between-the-toes syndrome, KWIM?

The sand at the bottom of this pool is coarser so that it does not stick to toes and clothes that much. It will come off easily. However on the kiddie pool side the sand is a little finer and may stick to the feet. You can rinse in the pool (before you get out) and I think they may have a shower to rinse (not really sure about that one). It is pretty cool.

...and the kids will love it!

DH and I did too...still kids at heart!:sunny:

In the Kiddie pool section, they also have a large sandpile that kids can play on, just climbing on it or building sandcastles and such. The sand is just right in that it doesn't stick to your feet too badly but it's a good consistency for sandcastles. It's a great place for preschoolers and our 10 & 7 year olds enjoyed spending time there too.

I am glad you brought this up. I have been considering BCV for our next trip, but have mostly ruled it out due to Stormalong. My husband HATES the beach, hates the feeling of sand between his toes, etc. So, although the pool gets such great reviews, I think the experience would be wasted on us. But I've never heard anyone say they did not like Stormalong Bay.

To drcmk, we just got back from BCV. We completely enjoyed everything about this place. The sand in this pool is very soft and doesn't stay on your feet at all. Have no fear about that, its nothing like the beach. Its just like getting out of any other pool, trust me. We loved it here and really loved this pool as you can swim forever its so big!

It's wonderful on the feet! I always get the best manicures when I go to the beach for a week, and the pool at Stormalong Bay does much the same thing. One warning, there are areas (I gather these can change locations) that don't have sand and if you're swimming around, put a foot down and expect sand but don't encounter it, you can stub a toe or two!

We have 2 boys (ages 2 and 4 at the time) and I did notice that the sand did get in their bathing suits. Not a lot but enough that it surprised me in the tub later. You may want to do a quickie discrete rinse in the pool for them before going back to the room. The kiddie area was great with the sand. I was able to sit down in the area and let the boys swim freely (not too deep there at all). It was so relaxing. Well, as relaxing as it can possibly be with 2 little ones!

I was talking with a life guard there, a few years ago and he said the sand is the same that you would use in an aquariun. He said every morning they scuba dive the pool to clean debri.

It's a great pool, and is why we like to stay yc/bc.

Yes, your children will have sand in their suits, hair, shoes, ears and everywhere sand from the beach ends up.

They'll love it!!
