I just read a post on another Disney maillist (DVCtalk) and it said that the pool at Beach/Yacht Club (Stormalong Bay) was badly in need of repair.

It stated thusly: "Stormalong Bay was nice but both my kids had scraped feet and so did I as the pool really does need some repairs--the bottom was rough and it was very visible where cement was missing all over the pool. Closing it would likely cause great grief for Disney but they are going to have to do something soon. The slide was closed for 2 days (our last 2
there) and maybe more while they fixed a leaking pipe and retreaded the stairs."

Another post stated this also on the Mouseforless group:
"I kind of had that feeling when I was there in October. I can't explain why, but I definitely got scraped knees from playing around with my daughter and all of a sudden coming upon a spot without sand... don't know if it's supposed to be like that or not, but it HURT! "

Does anyone have any recent experience with this facility that they could relate (good or bad)? My family and I are scheduled to be at the BCV for a week in July (renting DVC points). We decided upon BCV mainly due to Stornalong Bay. If the pool is not in good shape (by usual Disney standards), I would like to know beforehand so we can change our ressies to another DVC resort like the Boardwalk.

Stayed at BCV end of Jan - no problems like the one posted - we thought SAB was awesome

Luna Park is very good as well

It's a toss between whether we prefer BCV or BWV but slight nod to BCV due to SAB

SAB is currently slowly being rennovated. Different sections have been closed at different times since last fall. Usually, the rough bottom happens because SAB has a sandy bottom, and while they've been working on the pool, the sand level has been low. Also, the sand just seems to naturally migrate to some areas more than others. They were working on the section near the hot tubs last spring/summer. They were working on the lazy river section and bridges in October. The closing of the slide was not an emergency closing... it was a planned closing for repairs, and maintenance, and guests at the Y/BC/BCVs were allowed to use the slide at Luna Pool during this period. The reverse was done 4 months ago for those staying at the BW/BWVs while the Luna Pool Slide was down for maintenance.
:D

We were there in November and only the lazy river was closed during our stay. We had no problems with the sand bottom. I was able to sit in the "kiddie" section in the water very comfortably while my 2 boys played (ages 2 & 4).

ditto. Family and I were there in early December and we went to SAB on three different occasions. Didn't have any problems whatsoever, unless you count the sand that my DKs came back to the room with in their suits...LOL!!
