UPDATE - 5 & 8 AM advisories, Friday, July 8 - Hurricane Dennis is now a dangerous Category Four hurricane, with sustained winds of 135+ mph and gusts to 165+.

Hurricane Warnings and mandatory evacuations are in effect for the Florida Keys, and Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches now extend as far north as Sarasota on the Gulf Coast.

If you are travelling to Florida this weekend, you need to actively watch this storm.

American Airlines is offering no-fee rescheduling of any flights into or out of Florida between July 5 and July 18, and I am sure other airlines are doing similar things.

For accurate information, go to www.nhc.noaa.gov That's the National Hurricane Center site.

We are periodically updating info over on the DVC Community Board, with the latest storm info edited into the first post on the thread, so it's easy to find. Here's the thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=853935

Thanks Jim, we are supposed to fly Providence to MCO on Saturday at 10:15. We'll have to see what develops.

I'm supposed to head to DC on Saturday morning, so we'll just see what happens. Good luck to both of us.

Does anyone think it will be in FL on Tuesday? I will be flying in late morning. I hope not, but I know how it is.

Tuesday is REALLY unlikely, unless it just stops somewhere. You can go to the website I linked above and check the forcast charts.

Looks to me like it should be out of our hair by Sunday, either way, but these storms can be very unpredictable.

but if you are traveling to Florida this weekend, you'd better start watching this storm. It is going to develop into our first major hurricane of the season (projected to be a Category 3 within 48 hours - one model says Cat 4) and has all the makings of being a bad storm.

Five day predictions has it looking like it might hit the Pensacola/Alabama area. Of course really noth can be predicted until it gets past Cuba and then we really see which way it is going. And you are right that it looks like a bad one. You boarding up before you leave?? I've noticed some people are already partially putting up their shutters this year leaving front open but shuttering the rear.

Just for info, I'm posting some of the latest info over on the DVC Community board. Here's the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=853935

I'm holding off for now on boarding up, waiting to see. If we get clear, I won't. I'm always hopefull we won't have to put the shutters up because it's an all-day job and then we live in a cave until the end of the season.

If we're not clear, I'll delay my trip 'til Sunday or cancel. Just have to wait and see.

Thanks JimMIA~

For the link to noaa!

My ds (15) is going on a mission trip to Alabama on Saturday morning (from NC). While I type we are getting TS Cindy's rain and wind - we are under flood and tornado alerts. I am not concerned about the floods in my area - but the tornados do scare me. This is just making my fear of ds leaving Saturday all that worse. From what I understand they are travelling to Anniston AL - which I think is more north than near the coast (I could be wrong). I am really not sure if I should let him go or not - the church he is going with has not really said anything about it (I am not sure if they are aware of how bad this could be). The kids are staying in a middle school which is new and is equipped with some type of emergency precautions due to a ammunition depot being near by.

I guess I need to wait until late tommorow night to see what is going on with the hurricane. :confused3
