We are planning our first trip at BWV as members Aug 23rd. We were going to drive but at the last minute we decided to fly. We couldn't get a flight on the 24th so we have to come in on the 23rd and stay outside disney for one night. I'm renting a car from the airport and returning it to National Car at the Magic Kingdom Auto Plaza. I have to have the car back by 3:00pm on the 24th. I plan to go to the grocery store around 1:30pm If my room is not ready by 3:00 will they hold my frozen food for me?(ice cream, Pizza, Etc)
Thanks in advance for your help::cool:

All the WDW resorts have facilities to keep frozen/perishible foods and BWV is no exception, I have used it many times!! Enjoy your trip!!

Thank you for the helpful information. I'm looking forward to our first trip as members:Pinkbounc

Sorry this is not answering your question, but asking one instead. How much does it cost to rent the car for that one day? Also, how do you get from the MK Auto Plaza to your hotel? One last question, are you renting a car again to return to the airport?

In the ( Birnbaum's 2002) Walt Disney World Official Guide book there was a section on travel. I read that there is a National car rental at the Magic Kingdom Auto Plaza. I called and asked could I get a car from the National car rental at the airport and return it to the Magic plaza. I only need it for two days total and they said I could. There is five of us going and it was going to cost $127.00 for WDW shuttle to pick us up and drop us off. I'm paying $54.00 for the day I come in and 44.00 for the day I leave and I will return it back at the airport. I don't have to rely on someone being there to pick us up or drop us off. Also I will be able to go to the store before I check in BWV. The Magic Kingdom Auto Plaza # (407-824-3470)They will tell you where the closest drop off is depending on where you are staying and give you the toll free # for reservations. I hope that helps.

Something else you may want to consider. Go to the DVC website at disneyvacationclub.com, and check out their grocery lists. Not only do they list prices for you...they will actually deliver your groceries to your room! I think they only charge $5 for the delivery service. (The only catch is the groceries may not arrive until after 5p.m.) But heck, you're on vacation....let someone provide you with a little service. Just a thought!

Can you get to the grocery list on that site if you're not a member? We're renting points and would be interested in the service.

Okay, when I go in December I'm not going to have a car, I'm not going to order off net grocier (didn't like the choice of food and it seemed like most of the frozen dinners and such were for serveral people). I don't want to pay the price of DVC grocery list. I will be staying in a studio for 12 days with very limited fridge space.

For my next trip flying in, I have decided to just check a large cooler full of frozen food (using dry ice to keep everything cold) on the plane. I will bungee the top shut, and I'll have a cooler in addition to the fridge. Has anyone done this? I think its a brilliant plan (I saw a cooler come off the luggage carosel last trip).

We flew down from Long Island 2 times and stayed for a week, 5 of us. Loved ordering from netgrocer, bought all the stuff we could for the whole week from them. The prices were great. It was brought right to the room in 5 boxes. We have rented a van there on an earlier trip, went to publix, bought food for the week, etc. but after doing the netgrocer, frozen meat cooler thing, we would never do it any other way again. It also brings us a piece of home, bringing our meats and cold cuts from home. We packed spices too, and ate every meal except one character meal in the room! We had a one bedroom each time. We got all of these ideas from this forum.

We checked a soft cooler full of frozen meat, sausages, meatballs, hot dogs, hamburgers, a ton of cold cuts, steaks, and chicken. When we got to Disney it was still frozen solid. This worked out great! We didn't even have any blue ice or dry ice in it. In fact , the soft cooler kept it all frozen. We figured whatever melted we would eat the first two days but nothing melted. Then each morning we took out what we were going to eat before going out for the day. We did this at OKW and BWV.

All we had to buy was milk, eggs, margarine and bread from the Disney general store at BWV and OKW and that was painful enough. We are not cheap either but we probably saved hundreds of dollars. The way the kitchen is set up, we would throw everything in the dishwasher and run it over night after dinner or whenever.

The on site food and the disney delivery we felt was a total rip off.

We decided that time is too important to be shopping during our vacation.

So, you arrive at your DVC resort with your groceries. Do you just bring them to the luggage area or somewhere else?

Netgrocer delivers the groceries right to the resort. When we got there each time, it was already in the storage area. They delivered it to our room within 20 minutes or less. The cooler of meat we checked on the plane and got it in the luggage pick up. We brought that with us to the hotel. Other items like spices, laundry tabs, dishwasher tabs, cooking oil (we just brought enough for the week) we stored in the luggage.

any questions you can email me at patpat15@optonline.net and I will send you our packing list.
