Gday,

I've searched these forums but can't find the specific information I need. We are considering a stay cruise stay vacation at WDW. Specifically 5 days at Old keys, a Disney cruise then 8 more days at the poly. Coming from Oz we expect to be doing a lot of shopping for clothes, shoes souvenirs etc pre arrival at WDW. We won't need all of the new stuff while on the cruise. What are our options for storing a few suitcases while we are cruising? Can we leave the luggage at the resort? Will the ship store the extra bags on board for us? Lockers somewhere at WDW or the cruise terminals? Sorry if this info is somewhere obvious and Ive missed it.

Cheers

Whether you can leave luggage at your resort varies. You have to contact the resort(s) in question and ask. If they have space they will. But, it's been reported that, occasionally, they won't.

There is no extra storage areas onboard the ship for personal use. No lockers at Port Canaveral.

Are you able to do your shopping when you get back from your cruise? Or maybe just do the shopping for stuff you want for the cruise and take that luggage on board? Depending on much luggage you're taking, the staterooms can hold quite a bit of luggage (especially if you can unpack your stuff and then "nest" your luggage). We have friend from New Zealand who always end up buying a few suitcases to take back all the clothing they buy when they come visit...I expect we'll be doing the same thing when we visit them! :D

We are staying at Universal first which is near the factory outlets so will shop from there. We can leave our Disney shopping until after the cruise of course. Is there a limit on how many suitcases you can have per person on the cruise? 5 people traveling. We can only take 2 suitcases each without paying excess luggage on the plane so won't have more then 2 per person and I expect probably won't have anywhere near that many anyway. More like 7 suitcases at most. Will put up with a cramped cabin I guess if we have to lol.

The resorts typically will not allow luggage storage, and left luggage options pretty much everywhere are weak in the modern era.

You should be able to store 7-piece of luggage if you pack your cruise clothes in the bigger pieces then eat the smaller ones in the empty big ones; you should the be able to store the luggage under the bed and in the closet. We use packing cubes (a different color for each person) which keeps all our stuff from becoming a total mess in the cabin once we "unpack"

Im going to have to disagree here. Not only have I done it, but I am doing it again in two weeks. I have a three day stay before my cruise at Boardwalk and a 3 day stay after my cruise at AKL and I have verified with bell services again for this trip that they will hold my luggage.

OP, what you would want to do is coordinate this with the Poleynsian Resort.

I would call the resort directly to verify and make sure your request long term storage and explain what you're doing but from my experiences (previous and upcoming), yes....the resort you are checking into AFTER your cruise should hold your luggage.

We were on the Wonder in an Oceanview room for a 14 night cruise with 2 black tie evenings, and 4 days in Miami prior, so we packed A LOT of clothes. We had 3 large suitcases, 3 roll aboards and 3 small backpack sized bags. We fit it all under the bed. We had to nest a few, but it was not that bad. We did unpack completely and needed about 30 extra hangers, which they brought :)

As far as the hotel storing your bags...this is standard procedure. You can always send them to "shipping and receiving" and you may be charged a storage fee, but as a corporate travel director, I send entire pallets of stuff to the hotel in advance (up to 2 weeks early). Sometimes I have to pay a fee, other times, I do not. If the bell desk takes your bags, don't forget to tip them :)

We were easily able to store our bags with POR until we got back from our cruise. And we weren't even staying there after the cruise. But we did ASK. If they had said "no" we would have hauled it all onto the ship.

The outlets aren't that far from Disney. Disney and Uni aren't that far from each other. I personally would wait until I got back from the cruise to do my shopping.

This! Or I'd break it up and do any cruise-apparel shopping first and then finish up once I got back :P

Personally, I'd do all my shopping beforehand, then spend my cruise thinking over my purchases and what I didn't buy, then make a roadtrip back to the stores after my cruise to buy what I'd thought I didn't want the first time around. :rolleyes1

Thanks for all the help. We tend to shop up big when we visit the US from down under as even with the exchange rate it's cheaper to buy clothes and shoes etc then at home. I intend on packing light and buying us new wardrobes when we arrive lol. I will contact the poly in advance of the trip and ask nicely.
