Stores pushing Nikon 5000 on me- help

I drive a different car to the one my instructor had.

Well, as long as you aren't planning to ask your instructor specific questions about your vehicle, I don't see that as a problem.

Small stores are "pushing" Nikon, because Nikon pays small stores to push Nikon equipment!

Have you ever seen full page newspaper ads for small camera stores featuring Nikon equipment? These small stores could never afford any advertisement, except for cooperative marketing money from Nikon.

In contrast, Canon gave up on the small dealer and decided to push their product through Best Buy and large on-line dealers.

As with most electronics, the profit margins are very slim. The only way to make any money is to move 1,000s of units.

Well, as long as you aren't planning to ask your instructor specific questions about your vehicle, I don't see that as a problem.

Precisely my point - my driving instructor taught me the theory of driving not how to use specific controls for a specific make of car.

I have learnt the theory of photography from books, magazines and the internet by people who shoot with Canon/Nikon but that doesn't mean that I had to stick to a Canon/Nikon.

I felt that it was rather a weak case when someones cites the fact that instructors use a particular make as a reason for buying that make.
