Hi All :)

We are due to arrive at the Fort this coming October having had the time of our lives whilst staying at the Campground last year :thumbsup2

The only negative point I have throughout our whole three week stay was the lack of storage in the Cabin :sad2:

We are a family of 6, and ended up using the cupboards in the kitchen as storage for my childrens clothes, and left one case open on the bottom bunk bed so that we could keep using this to pack away dirty item/souvenirs etc.

I thought that by maybe posting this thread all you experienced Cabin stayers could maybe let me in to any secret gadget you take for during your stays.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere like an over the door hanger :confused3

Thanks everyone in advance:flower3:

I agree there's a limited amount of storage. Did you use the 2 cabinets on either side of the murphy bed? They're fairly large and can hold a good amount of clothing on the shelves.

We also used that little vanity area in the bedroom to stack some clothes as well as the shelf in the closet.

I would think you could also put your suitcase on the luggage rack in the closet and use it to store clothes.

For 2 of us, there's plenty of space.

What about one of those popup up hampers? I thought of that while we were there in January...we could have used a hamper in the closet and then the drawers would have been empty for clothes...

One suitcase on top of the cabinets on either side of the murphy bed.
Two suitcases over by the tv. One on top of the little kids table and one on the floor next to it.

Unpacked 2 of the suitcases into the bedroom dresser and put them in the closet. All other items went into the cabinets by the murphy bed. Sure, we had 4 suitcases "out" but they were out of our way so no tripping over them!

We also brought a pop up hamper and an over the door organizer for the bathroom. However the bathroom one wouldn't really work on the door so I hung it on the shower rod and it worked great!

our bigger issue was shoes :) It became a pile under the kitchen table.

I hang everything up that i can. I bring extra hangers with me. Then stuff the luggage underneath the bench in the kitchen. Dirty cloths go back in the luggage. This year I am going to bring half the cloths and do laundry one day. We used the cabinets by the murphy bed for "kid junk" like toys.

I also read somewhere to put up those hooks that you can easily take off. I forgot the name. They are on TV around Christmas. Anyhow, Use those to hang your keys and lanyards. I also use a dish bowl to throw all of our recipes and change in.

My sons clothes are bagged in zip locks for each day. They fit well in the night stand by the beds.

Storage is definitely an issue with the cabins. While it may SLEEP 6 - is everyone supposed to only wear one outfit the whole time?

It would be nice if they could address this - We drive so we used our car for the luggage storage.

I agree, we barely had room for the 3 of us to put our stuff.

OmG you just reminded me of something I hadn't thought of! We're not staying in the cabins- we're staying in our TT and we've never stayed in our TT at a place where we'd need to bring so many clothes (for the parks each day plus the cruise afterwards) and all the "extra things" we'd bring (for while at the park and on the cruise) that we normally wouldn't bring on a regular camping trip.... and for a whole week too (only have camped in it 3 days at most). Wowzer.....
We don't have hardly any storage in the LIVING areas inside (just tons underneath). Goodness gracious I hadn't thought of that.

Oh wait- our bed lifts up to get into the front under storage thing- I guess that will be our "dresser" for everyone or something. We'll be living out of suitcases. LOL I can't believe I hadn't thought about that before now! LOL

One thing to consider, get SpaceBags for your cold weather gear. Chances are you won't need it and can leave it vacuumed down, taking up little storage space... and can even be stowed in the basements (air and water tight). If you do need to break them out, you can use the bags to hold dirty clothes and roll much of the air out by hand and stow that in the basement.

Great success in cabins with 6 people:

    • Over the door hooks for hanging extra clothes and jackets (bring 2-3, lots of doors)
    • 3M Command hooks - everyone had a place to hang lanyards, keys, hats (removed easily when we left)
    • Suction hooks for bathroom - everyone had a place to hang their own washcloth
    • Over the door shoe rack for bathroom door. Everyone had a place for their toiletries - flat type that lies flat against the door - perfect and kept vanity free for everyone
    1. pop up hampers - used small cubes on shelves next to murphy beds for clothes storage
    2. cheap under bed zip up blanket box (dollar general) kept extra clothes, etc.

Also, bring power strip for everyone's charging needs.
