We are driving to WDW from Ontario, Canada. It will be me, DH, DD6, and DS5.
My DH wants to try going straight through (a 24hr trip) but I think it might be best to stop for the night.

I am curious about Disney's Hilton Head DVC resort. Would this be way too far out of the way? Would you try to go further/not as far on the first day?
How much longer would the drive be from HH to WDW?

Thanks for your help.

Kelly

Once you get off of I95, you must travel east for about 30 minutes before you actually hit Hilton Head! But, we drove by the Disney property, and it does look nice!

Hi Kelly, We've driven from Connecticut and used the Hilton Head DVC as a stopping point. From Conn, it takes us about 12 hours to get there. From Hilton Head to WDW it is then another 5-5 1/2 hours. From I95 it is about a 25 mile drive to get there (on a very dark but busy road), however. We've done it when we wanted to use our DVC points for our stopover and we always have time for a little dinner and exploring the resort, but if you were going to get there late at night and then leave early in the morning, I don't think it would be worth it for you.

The only problem with stopping at HH is you are, as best I remember, about 45 minutes to an hour off of the interstate. So you are adding 1 1/2 to 2 hours to your time in the car.(In other words, you are back tracking to go to HH and back to the interstate, not moving forward at all). If you are going to spend a couple of nights, i'd do it. If it is just a place to lay your head for the evening, i'd pick an inexpensive hotel right at an interstate exit. I love HH but never use it as a stopover (so, consequently, I am not sure how many more hours drive time from there but my guess would be about 5 more to Orlando...somebody else chime in who has done it!)
