Stop motion movies?

Has anyone on here ever made a stop motion movie?

Any reccommendations on a program to throw it all together? I probably don't need to shoot at the highest photo quality? or do I?

Any advise would be appreciated!

Are you on a mac, PC or linux? There are a number of packages available for each platform.

I've been experimenting with building up time lapse movies from webcam snapshots.

I'm doing it from the command line though using a freeware (GNU) movie encoded called mencode.

I made this one using an iPhone and iMovie. It was on a whim while I was playing with my old legos with my daughter. It could be a lot better, but I only spent about 5 minutes on it.

Was going to get Adobe After Effects, but I don't have a 64 bit OS... oh well Windows Movie maker for me! Unless there are any better suggestions?

We edit a lot of video and use PC's in our house. We used to use Mac's but migrated over a few years back.

For stop motion I use Flash. However, unless you're getting into animation you may never use Flash for anything else. Premiere would also work well, but like After Effects it takes a 64 bit machine when you're using a PC.

What I have done so far is as follows.

All the programs for making stop motion movies need to be installed prior to taking the photos, at least the ones I found.

So I loaded all the still jpegs into movie maker, published it as a slideshow, reloaded it, doubled it up ten times adn am awaiting the results!

Movie maker is not the way to go! Thats for sure, file has been compressed so much it looks like it was filmed with a 5 year old cell phone camera!

I have been using Quicktime Pro for all the time lapse experiments I have been trying out.
It lets you save it as a 1920x1080 HD file all the way down to a 640 x 480 VGA file or smaller.

Just remember its Quicktime PRO, not the regular quicktime
Its only $30

The last stop motion movie I made was on Super8, and featured James Watt walking up to a tree with a chainsaw; the top of the tree opened and a big tongue came out, wrapped around him, and dragged him in, closed, then licked its "lips". My first attempt at a political statement via "art". (Kids, if you don't remember James Watt, he was a notorious Secretary of the Interior who had a reputation for hating the environment.)

There are a ton of packages for making slide-show videos. Perhaps one of those may fill you needs? You'd just have to make sure that it would let you change the delay between photos to milliseconds, not just seconds.

I made this vidio during the Blizzard of 20011 using my Canon XS, the Canon Utility program that came with the camera, and my laptop. I took one exposure every 15 seconds for 7.5 Hrs (2000+). I ran the images through Photoshop Elements 8 and made the video in Premiere Elements 8.
I didn't realize the birds would look so frenetic until I was done.
