Hey Dis friends!
Sorry I was missing in action once I left work on Friday.
Friday, John worked out of town at his dad's house helping him fix an old shed. He came home in time to go with me to pick up Hunter from school. We stopped at Dollar General trying to find a potpourri pot. I have one old one and one new one. The new ones have a raised center and don't work as good as the old ones. No luck.
We also drove out to Cheniere Lake which everybody talked about was flooding. It was all the way even with the road and over the road in some places. I took pictures but we were traveling into the sun so they didn't turn out so great. When we turned around to go back towards home, my camera battery died.
I took my mother shopping on Saturday and I was able to get a few Christmas gifts.

Then, we went to Sam's to return a sweater she had bought a few weeks ago. Of course, we had to walk around and sample the foods they were cooking.
We spent some time outside with Oddball playing ball and just generally goofing off until it was time to get ready to go to the Taste of the Twin Cities. Hunter had decided he wanted to stay home with his Mamaw and watch Ice Age 3. My Mama was all for that....she loves the Ice Age movies.
When we got to the Civic Center, there was a line of people outside waiting to be admitted. We were about 10 minutes early but we were afraid they would run out of food.
Let's see if I can remember all of the stuff we ate......lots of gumbo (of course), jambalaya, several shrimp and rice dishes, bbq ribs, sausage, brisket, potato salad, cole slaw, chick-fil-a brownies, crab salad, chicken salad, healthy cookies, caramel bread pudding, lemon pepper chicken wings, cajun chicken wings, buffalo chicken wings, Coke, Community coffee and tea, homemade salsa, bbq egg rolls, shrimp and grits, strawberry lemonade, Smirnoff Ice passion fruit beer and pumpkin cheesecake. There were other things there too.....potato soup, cream cheese with spreads, Church's chicken, Hooters, honey, bbq sauce and a few more things. Almost everything we ate was good except for two things that stand out as being bad...really bad....shrimp and grits from O'Charley's restaurant and the chicken and crab salad from a local deli. They were so yucky that I took one bite and that's all I could stand. Wait, the bbq eggrolls were disgusting too.
I would have never paid $20.00 to get in but, since it was free, it was something different to do.
I'm still trying to figure out if we are going to go somewhere for Thanksgiving. I've ruled out the cruise and Tennessee. Lacey spent the weekend in Tennessee and it would take us 10 hours and 55 minutes to get to Gatlinburg.
San Antonio is still a maybe. I haven't been in years and years and years so I am not sure of the good areas of town and the bad areas of town. I've found some fairly decent rates though and was able to print out some coupons online.
Believe it or note, Branson is ranking number 1 right now. I've found a Grand Country package that includes Silver Dollar City and show tickets. Silver Dollar City's Christmas festival thingie started Saturday. They had a video on their website and it looks beautiful all lit up. The park would only be open from 12:00 to 9:30 p.m. That's a good thing though because Mama couldn't stand an entire day of walking. I'm going to call and see if they have
scooter rentals.
The only problem is....Branson gets expensive very quickly. That's why I am looking at the package. The Grand Country resort is like a village unto itself. They have the hotel itself, a restaurant, an indoor water park, an indoor mini-putt, an ice cream parlor, a pizza parlor, three shows a day and shopping.
Another problem with the Grand Country package is we will have 5 since Mama would be coming along. She would want her own room which would be okay since either Hunter or Lacey could stay with her. But they don't have a package for 5 people. It's either 2 or 4. I'm going to check their site again today and probably even call them.
I've also looked into renting a cabin somewhere in Arkansas. Mama absolutely loves Eureka Springs, Arkansas. If we could get a state park cabin somewhere nearby, we could see Eureka Springs and then drive to Branson for the day.
Heck, I don't know what we will do.
