My mom is thinking about going to Universal/IOA for a day but can't do much spinning. I've read in some older Posts (about 2002) that the ride host can turn of the spinning. Is that still true?

Thanks

I've never heard about that, not sure. It really doesn't spin that much IMO, just probably about 6 or 7 times or so, its not violent. Its not like the teacups with constant rotation.

i don't do the tea cups @ MK, have no problem whatsoever on Cat in the Hat!

very non agressive, just at various spots in the ride

slip her a bonine;) course you might want to check w/dr as to any meds she's currently taking, etc.

About a year after IOA opened I recall I think a family did request to have a non-spinning ride through and was able to, but Im not 100% sure if thats what happened. Sometimes it just doesn't spin anyway if the ride isnt working right

There was a time that you could request a non-spinning car but it's been over 2 years since they had that option.

I personally think the spinning is a bit violent. I had a 2 yr old beside me and had to hold onto him for dear life because he (and me if Im honest) was flying from side to side because of the spins.

I don't think the spin between Cat in the Hat, Spiderman and MIB are all that much different... :confused3 Anyone agree?

I am hyper-hyper sensitive to spinning- had an anyurism years ago and have to be very careful. The spinning on MIB I could not do- it spins like 7 or 8 rotations in a row and I can not do it. The spinning on Cat in the Hat was only one full rotation at a time but was very fast- by the sixth or seventh one I was feeling funny and getting nervous- I had a pretty bad head ache the rest of the day after getting off. The spinning on Spiderman was nothing! I loved it - it only had the one spin in the middle of the ride that was anything but it was over before you knew it. This is only for peole that are very sensitive- like me - I am sure most people could do all three with no problems.

I get extreme motion sickness....terrible actually. I found MIB and the Spiderman rides fine...very smooth and truthfully, there is always something on those two rides that seemed to draw my attention away from the spinning. As for Cat in the Hat, I found this ride very difficult, and have not ridden it again. I found that the spins were much more violent and felt like there was more of them (didn't count a comparison, it just felt like more, IMHO). I also found that although there was alot to look at, it wasn't enough to actually draw my attention away from the spins...not esthetically as pleasing as Spiderman or MIB. I personally cannot go back on this ride without a large dose of Dramamine and even then, that may not help me on this ride.

The spinning is pretty smooth. It doesn't bother me (or my sons) much personally, but it wouldn't both me if they stopped the spinning. My wife HATES it and doesn't ride with us.

DH and I rode Cat in the Hat many years ago and hated the spinning. We can [just] take MIB and Spiderman, but will never go on Cat in the Hat again.

They used to do the non-spinning option, but, as mentioned, removed that option a couple of years ago. When I went this past spring, I made sure I asked for a manager when my wife and kids went on the ride and let him know how unfortunate it was that they removed the option for folks with motion sickness. I also wrote an email to guest services about the same thing. Never got a reply from them, which surprised me since we are PAP holders....
