OT: We are considering spending a couple of nights at Stone Mountain in Georgia. We are looking at the first week in June. It will be 4 of us. Kids are 8 and 5. We will be tent camping. Anyone have any tips on what to do, or advice about this destination?

By the way...we are WDW bound in October!!!!

Never camped here, but the Laser Show is great and the pass you buy for all of the activities is the best way to go if you are going to do more than a couple of things. My kids love the train and the tram to the top is nice. We wouldn't want to camp here, we like the mountains better. I consider it a nice place for a day trip, but I also live within an hour of there so that is easy for me to say.

Are you going to do anything else in the area or just Stone Mtn. park?

A few people on here said the campground could use some work. I personally have never seen it. There was a recent thread about Stone Mtn. Maybe do a search or hopefully the more informed campers can help.:)

We camped at Stone Mountain several years ago and had a great time. There is a LOT to do there...and it was really very affordable.

When we camped, we were able to get wristbands which got us in to almost all of the attractions...in fact, it seemed like if you bought the wristbands after a certain time, you could use them for a day and a half....some of the things the wristband covered were the cable car, mini-golf, water slides, paddlewheel boat cruise, train ride, plantation house, and antique car museum.

The section of the campground we stayed in was very nice...very hilly terrain right on the lake...bathhouses were nice.

We went to the laser show almost every night...pack food and eat dinner on the Great Lawn before the show...is a really great atmosphere.

There is also a "town" adjacent to the Great Lawn which has a "feel" similar to Dollywood.

Six Flags Amusement Park and Whitewater water park are some options...as well as the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke.

Our kids also really enjoyed the Cyclorama http://www.atlantacyclorama.org/

I live very close to Stone Mountain and actually lived there when my husband and I first got married (in the town, not the park). It has changed a lot over the years, but it is still a fun place to visit. The laser show is fantastic and the buffet at the Stone Mountain Inn is usually pretty good. I've never been to the campground though, so I have no idea what it is like.

this is great. thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm going to visit the previous thread. I think we could spend a few days there and find plenty to do.
