I'm currently having a discussion with oldest DD about the stone that goes in the class ring. She came home with the paperwork yesterday and was really excited about it so she went to the website last night to design the ring.
The stone she picked out is neither her birthstone nor her class/school color.

Personally, I don't know anyone who just picked a random color for their class ring stone but she really doesn't like her birthstone (Emerald) or her school color (Red/Ruby). She has her heart set on the Aquamarine stone which is just a little odd to me as it has no reasoning behind it, LOL.

Obviously, it is her choice but I'm curious as to what inspired other people to make their choice...please share! :flower3:

I had my birth stone which is sapphire, I like Sapphire really well so I would have gotten it anyway. I would let her get what she wants. She is the one that has to wear it.

I would let her get what she likes, I liked my birth stone that why I picked my out to be the same color has my birth stone.

My birthstone is pink and I really don't like pink - I'm more of a blue kind of girl. So, I went with December's birthstone - a pretty blue one.

I got my birth stone, my oldest son chose his birth stone as well, my youngest son picked his school color, which happened to by my birth stone as well.

The younger one also got a style and color (white gold) that I would not have picked, but as I told him, it was his ring, he was the one that needed to like it not me.

Mine was my birthstone...Peridot with the school crest with its colors on the side. But its her ring, her year, let her get what she wants!

I chose a saphire because I liked blue. Not my birthstone or one of my school colors. If they don't like it, they won't wear it, so I'd let her choose what stone she wants.

Its her ring, let her get what she wants. As long as my kids are happy with it, I really couldn't care less what I or others think.

My birthstone is Topaz --BLECH! And my school colors were Orange and Blue so not much choice! I went with Blue.

My class ring's stone is black onyx because I liked the way it looked, especially with the gold inlay.

Birthstone in both of them.

The first one I had, was a dainty ring, that broke twice, my freshman year and then again early in my sophmore year.

Due to the problems with the brakeage, Jostens replaced my ring with another ring of a less dainty design and I never had another breakage problem with that ring.

No one I know of, ever got anything other than their birthstone or our school color.

I'm an October baby too, so my REAL birthstone is OPAL and if they would have let me use that, I would have in a heart beat, but they wouldn't (too soft), and I did not want the pink. The school color was the ruby too, didn't like it either, so I picked the Aquamarine as well, the secondary school color was blue (but usually a dark blue) and it was just such a pretty and feminine blue stone to me. Wish I knew what happened to that ring, just so happens my oldest is a March baby, and I could have given it to her.

As I stated in the original post, I am definitely letting her pick it out (and the blue looks really nice in the design she picked). I was just looking for others opinions...thanks for the replies! :)

I got a mother of pearl stone in my ring.

I got my birthstone, aquamarine, but I would have chosen it anyway even if it wasn't my birthstone. I just love the color. I chose a white gold ring with small diamond accents, and the whole thing turned out so pretty.

My school colors were green and gold, and I hated those colors together. There was no way I would've worn a piece of jewelry with emerald in yellow gold. Still wouldn't.

My parents were only concerned with whether or not I'd actually WEAR the ring, since it wasn't inexpensive. They didn't care about the symbolism of the color of the stone.

If it makes you feel any better (and I'm really not sure why this is such an issue in the first place), emerald and aquamarine are very closely related. They're both from the beryl family.

Mine was a saphire because I just love the color. My birthstone is ruby which I like but I LOVE saphire. My dd just got her class ring she hates her birthstone which is smokey quartz she got a light blue stone forget the name.

I got my birthstone, but a girl in my class just picked a stone she liked, and after I saw her ring, I wished I had done the same. Mine was a washed out looking blue and I like other stones better.

I personally feel the stone for June that they use in these things is ugly. Pearls are also associated with June, and I love them. I ended up getting a mother of pearl in my HS class ring. My university class ring has no stone.
