How old is too old to let the kids ride in a stroller at the parks? Also, how much do the strollers cost/day and is there a flat rate to rent for the enitre week?

I have a very active 5 yr old, that is small for him age (just now 40 inches and weights 30 lbs) and I will be using a stroller for him and his younger sister in Aug. There is no way that he could walk those parks all day. I think that around 6 ish, but my 7 yr old used it for a little while last yr, but he had also had heart surgery that yr and was getting his stamina up again. I think that if you/child needs it, then by all means use it. As far as the weight limit on strollers that you rent, I am not sure what those are, so you have to take that into consideration also (whether it is a personal or rented stroller).

Good luch on your decision.

How old is too old is really up to you. You know your child best. Opinions on here run the gamit, some think four is too old and others allow their children to "stroller" as long as they like. Different children have different physical and emotional needs so I think its best for the parent to decide.

According to allearsnet.com the strollers cost:

"Single or infant (newborn to 9 months) strollers: $15/day (no deposit) or purchase $13/day length of stay rental.

Double strollers: $31/day (no deposit) or purchase $27/day length of stay rental."

When they're old enough to do it without constantly whining, they're old enough for no stroller! LOL My dd had just turned 6 on our first trip and did the parks with no complaining (and we're the kind of family who really motors through the parks). But my ds will be 5 1/2 this trip and I know we'll need a stroller for him. I guess I'm saying, it really depends on the kid.

I agree with the others. You need to decide for your children. I let my 7 and 5 year olds ride in Epcot, but they walk the other parks.

I've seen some "tall" children who were squeezing themselves into the double strollers and they looked very uncomfortable. There was one case where the little girl was in the stroller by herself and still looked like she was doubled up like a pretzel. I'm not saying she'd rather walk than ride, but I had seen her walking (skipping actually) so I don't believe there was any disability involved. This was mid-day, so there hadn't been time to have a long day in any park! Personally I think each parent knows their children best, but it does seem sometimes that the strollers are overused.

It depends on your children My youngest uses a stroller, but he's also small for his age. He also has one of those "invisible" disabilities, and the stroller helps him feel safe. My oldest didn't use a stroller after he turned 4! It just depends on your children, for sure.

If I used my son as a reference, I'd have to say any age over 18 months! Seriously, that kid was a walking fool and still is today. And his daughter was out of the stroller for 98% of the time on her first visit to Disney World when she was five. I don't think he'll ever get his now 2 year old son to ever ride in a stroller. He's too active (like father, like son).

But then again, I knew of an eight year old that would have been whining in about five minutes because she was tired.

Well my little brother is five years old and he is going to be in a stroller because the parks are to big for him to walk the entire thing with out a rest. When he was younger we brought his own stroller but this last trip in 2007 we rented a
stroller from Disney and had no complaints.

Last year we went and had four children ages 7,6,4, and 1. We rented a double stroller and also brought our single from home. Our little one rode in our stroller and the others took turns in the rented double from Disney. We found it easier for us, if we had three children riding and only 1 to keep our eyes on, especially in heavy crowds. Now our oldest was about 46 inches at the time, our 6 year old about 42" and 4 year old about 38". So they are definitely on the small side. My oldest had no problem riding, actually enjoyed it, for a short time. It also protected them from the sun for a bit.

Who cares what other people think. If I want to rent a stroller and push my dh around it, who is anyone to say anything to me.

Every family has a different situation. I have 3 children and 9, 7 & 4 and I will be bring our stroller from home, because my youngest dd is a royal pain in the butt and will just complain the entire day about her legs hurting and honestly I don't want to listen to her, so I will bring it and if anyone gives me looks, whatever, they can take her for a day and listen to her whine. LOL

You know your kids best and their personalities so I would go with your gut, hey if they don't use, well at least you have something to carry your bags.

My 4 year old goes in and out of the stroller depending on his mood. My 6 year old walks, except in EPCOT, then we get him a stroller to make our stroll through WS more enjoyable. Less complaining his feet hurt this way.

:goodvibes well, It has nothing to do with "age".........my daughter is 7 and she ended up riding in the stroller most of the time at ALL of the parks because 1. it was so crowded that it was just easier to keep track of her, and 2. her legs get tired very fast.....and then she has trouble keeping up (not that we run or anything). We are going back again this Nov. and I have full intentions on using a stroller if I have to. Plus, she had a seat any time she needed it..........especially for the parades. If she got tired and fell asleep, we could still enjoy our time in the park........we didn't go back to a hotel "mid-day" for breaks.....and don't intend on doing it this year either.

I say.........if you need the stroller then get it!:goodvibes

Just back and SO glad I had strollers for my 5 1/2 year olds! We had umbrella strollers that held up to 55 lbs and folded compactly. Very easy for the bus! I did not envy people with giant strollers-what a burden!

jngwright - would you mind sharing the make/model of the umbrella strollers that you have? I've had a hard time finding an umbrella stroller model that would hold over 40 lbs and we were thinking about using one for our ds this November.

I dont know about jngwright, but I know that Maclaren brands can hold up to 55 pounds and are light weight and compact.

As soon as I could walk, I was expected to walk at WDW. My brother had some difficulty reaching some physical developmental milestones as a kid, so he got a stroller until he was much older.

I see some pretty old kids in the strollers at WDW. They don't look comfortable in those strollers. After a certain age, if the child still needs some sort of stroller (because of an issue, not out of laziness), you might want to go with a wheelchair instead.

I dunno, if you have an older kid who was with parents that go, go, go and the kid's expected to walk for miles; I think it's probably best for the kid to be in a stroller when they're getting fatigued. Don't really think it's laziness and certainly don't think a child who doesn't actually need one should be renting a wheelchair! Lots of people that actually need them, for other than being a child who tires, might not get one...:thumbsup2

My kids are in really excellent, active shape and walk or run probably two miles a day; but they get really worn out in WDW -- not an issue or laziness; just a lot of walking and a really long day. :goodvibes

Just an observation on the thread as a whole:
I see something like this every few months and I always wonder who would think their kids would be better in a stroller and not do it because other people might think something funny? Others, as in people you don't know and will likely never see again are influencing your child's comfort and your family's vacation? Not directed at anyone personally and not trying to attack or insult anyone but your kids are your kids; anyone else's opinion is immaterial. JMHO :lovestruc

When we went for spring break it was just me and 4 boys (two 12 years olds and two 9 year olds that are probably as small a a 7 year old) it was easier for me to rent a double stroller to carry bags and the 2 younger ones in the stroller and keep both in one place and the two older ones in front of me so i knew where all of them were at all times. It also came in handy when one of the younger ones would fall alseep. I don't think age should be a factor in renting a stroller...who cares if anyone looks at you funny...I don't know them they don't know what my situation is and it my money if I want to rent a stroller I can whatever age

My kids have only been to WDW once (two days at MK) when they were almost 2, 4 1/2 and 6 1/2. We brought our umbrella stroller for my youngest - stroller for him was a no brainer. He is now 3 and will definitely be in the umbrella stroller this May and October. He would be willing to walk some of the time, and probably will in some circumstances like if we just have to go a short distance between rides, but I don't need to worry about losing him in the crowds.

We also rented a double stroller our second day of MK mainly for the 4 yo. But we got a double just in case my oldest son got tired. We used it part of the day so they could rest their legs, and also so we would feel more comfortable moving through the crowds with three young kids. They are 6 and 8 now and we will not rent a stroller for them but are also not planning huge amounts of walking. If I were going to try to see all of EP in a day I'd consider renting a stroller for my 6 yo. And no, not because she is lazy and out of shape.

You can always rent a stroller mid day if you need it. And who cares what other people think! To make a blanket statement that any child without special needs above age x in a stoller is lazy is unfair if you ask me.
