stoller security

I just bought a bicycle chain to lock my stroller tires. I figure if I lock it up, there will be no chance of it getting stollen. Anyway thought I would share the idea.

As long as you don't chain it to anything and the CM's can move the stroller to park it, then it should be fine.

If you chain all the wheels or you chain it to anything else (fence, poll, etc) then the lock will get cut by a CM.

Any other security measures so I don't get my stroller stollen?

Decorate it with your name and bright colored scarves, ribbons, or whatever you like. If it has something distinctive on it then maybe people would think twice about taking it because you could point out it was yours. My parents did this with our stroller on the last trip. I saw the tip here on the dis.

We had bright colored markers on our stroller this spring and our stroller was fine.

You may see some people swear by leaving a dirty diaper in the stroller as a deterant :sad2:, but IMHO it's a little extreme...

My mom was just asking this question... I'd been fighting my parents since June to take a my stroller for DS and Dneph (grandparents/grandbaby only trip). Dad swore they could get both boys all day w/o one!!! :scared1: Mom finally asked if she could take ours and I'm okay with it. I also told her that we could mark it up to make her feel better about taking it, that is if we can't break down the jogging stroller I bought used for $20.

If you're that worried, is there a resale shop or "good" Goodwill you could look for a cheapie stroller to get you through your trip?

To be honest we just live on the edge and park the stroller in stroller parking and hope for the best. I couldn't imagine locking and unlocking it every single time we wanted to go on a ride. If you really are that worried about it then I would stick to decorating it with bright ribbons and your name. Good luck.

Can I ask a question? How many people have actually had strollers "Stolen"? Or are we talking a case of mistaken identity and the people took the wrong stroller?

Just curious, since this will be our first trip with a stroller.

I am wondering the same thing. We are actually taking our expensive Chicco stroller because it reclines and will hold the diaper bag and other things....the umbrella stroller that I have will not hold my diaper bag or cooler and I'm not carrying that stuff around the parks. I hope that we will be ok with this.....I plan on decorating it tonight with some bright objects!

I've been going for 6 years with children and have never had a problem. I always bring my own stroller. I usually purchase a balloon at the beginning of the vacation and tie it to the stroller handles. That way, I can find it from a distance. I think some reports I have read were a case of mistaken identity with the rented strollers.

Yup, that what we did too. Even with the expensive $200+ Maclaren Techno. I didn't decorate it though since it was from the UK and had an unusual butt-ugly pattern that was very distinct. The one time I forgot it, I bought a cheapie Kolcraft umbrella stroller and put a pony tail holder with streamers (from Claire's in the local mall) on the handle so it was easier to find.

You can weave the chain through the 2 back wheels that way the CM can move it but it is useless to the theif.

I've been five times and have never had a problem. We have a common stroller, so I have tied a bandanna around the handle bar. That really just helps us find it quickly.

We've been a couple times with 2 strollers and never had either of them taken. The only time I couldn't find mine right away was when we parked them together, but the CMs moved them while we were inside Philharmagic and split them up when they moved them. It took a second, but we found it easily enough. We put a luggage tag on ours so it would be easier to identify. I'm thinking of putting a glow bracelet on it at night so we can find it easier after Fantasmic and other rides.

I don't know that many are actually taken but I use a bike lock as well threaded thru the tires. Never had an issue, CMS still moved it back and forth but it was always around. I don't take our most expensive buggies but they aren't cheap and I really don't want to replace them either.

We are renting from an off site stroller company-and they offer damage and stolen insurance for an extra fee-the stoller they rent out retail for $400+ and I am not interested in paying that incase of any problems. The extra fee is great peace of mind for me. Also, another thought was that the owner of this company says that the back wheel pops of easy enough to take in with on rides/dinner ect. But I didnt want to bother with that. I also asked if there were a lot is issues with people stealing strollers and she said out of the thousands of strollers maybe 6 have been stolen. Not common, but it does happen.

We have never had a problem, and we usually take two seperate strollers for our two. Usually if you can't find your stroller it's just because the CM has moved it to a more convenient parking zone.

We usually have our backpack in the seat to balance them while they are parked - nothing valuable it it just diapers, wipes, so not only can we identify it but others can too.

We have gone for years with strollers and have never had any problems and we leave our cameras and everything in them! I trust Disney and I always think who is going to try and steal a stroller when they never know who is looking...

Wow-I'm surprised you left your cameras, my sister's family went in April and my nephew left his backpack in the restroom on accident, returned a FEW minutes later-to find his backpack there but the video camera missing out of it! :confused3I know it's disney-and most of the people are honest and trustworthy, but there are always a few people who care less about others and will do anything to make themselves feel better! Just be careful!

I highly recommend our method - buy a used, cheap stroller to bring with you. No one will think of stealing an older model with so many others to choose from and if they did - well, we only paid $20 for it so we didn't really care!

We carry all of our valuables in a backpack and grab it and take it with us every time we leave the stroller. We leave a small cooler of water and other things we don't care all that much about in the basket when we leave.

WAY better than locking/unlocking it constantly - We're always hurrying to run into line as we get to an attraction so even just leaving the stroller and dd hopping out takes more time than I want it to - I wouldn't want to add a step with the locking process.
