Stockpiling Tickets

Prices went up today while I was trying to decide which ones to buy. What a bummer.
:sad2:

Whew!. glad I bought late last night two more tickets in addition to the 5 bought last week from UCT. We too have APs, but have a stockpile of a variety of tickets....some children, some adult, some non-expiring with the WP visits. That way, we can use the visits to waterparks and DQ, but have to have the premium APs.

They come in handy when you have a spur of the moment trip or want to take a guest. I plan on giving some as Christmas presents to family whenever we plan a big gathering.

Well I guess UT solved my delimma for me. This morning the 10 day + wp + no exp were 572.95 (adult). Now they are $621.95. I'm not sure what time exactly the price increase went into effect. On a positive note, the price did not go up as much as I was afraid it would. I would only have saved $121 after I paid the interest on my credit card purchase. I 'm going to hope and pray the Y.E.S. program still has individual enrollment next summer.

Not to hijack the thread, b/c I'm all about stockpiling, but a quick detour... what is this secret perk??? You can use non-expiring park hoppers at DISNEYLAND? Oh man, if only I had known. Someone confirm.

Yes, you can use any valid, unexpired WDW ticket at DL - regular and nonexpiring. Say you had regular expiring tickets with days left and were still within your 14 day activation window, you could fly out west and use those days at DL. Non expiring tickets work the same way, only you don't have to worry about the 14 day window. However, you cannot use DL tickets at WDW, nor can you use regular WDW APs at DL. There is a conversion process you need to go through at DL when you use WDW tickets. There is a WDW Tickets sticky on the boards that explains it all, I just can't find it at the moment.

The following info is from the Mousesavers website.

Using Walt Disney World Tickets at Disneyland
Interesting, unpublished fact: you can use any unexpired, leftover days on a Walt Disney World ticket at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure! Present the Disney World ticket at the front gate on arrival -- they will take it somewhere, deduct a day from it, and give you a one-day Disneyland Park Hopper ticket. You can repeat this day by day until the Disney World ticket is used up. They will not give you a multi-day ticket all at once, even if you have multiple days left on your Disney World ticket. Also, MouseSavers.com reader Danny P notes that any Disneyland ticket obtained from exchanging a Walt Disney World ticket must be used on the same day it was exchanged.

This policy has been in effect at least since I started this site (2001), and the information was last reconfirmed by a MouseSavers.com reader in April 2011. Don't even bother calling Disneyland to ask about this -- the people answering the phone have no idea and they will tell you they don't take Disney World tickets.

Disneyland tickets are NOT accepted at Walt Disney World, and Annual Passes are only good at the park where they were purchased (Walt Disney World Annual Passes are NOT good at Disneyland, and vice versa). However, there is now a Premier Passport that is good at both locations.

Can anyone please tell me what the price for 10 day non expiring non hopper no extras were last week?

I purchased 5 about a month ago and would like to know how much money I saved. I still am using Water Parks and more from about 2008

Thanks.

Would a "new" (never used) WDW ticket work just as well for admission to Disneyland. The previous info mentions "leftover" days. Just wondering, we have several never used.

Yes, a new ticket would work, but be aware that when you use it the 14 day window is activated. Those 1 day tickets AP holders get so they can get the free dining plan would work great for DL. Non expiring tickets are a good way to go too.

Yes, I would have to use one of my non-expiring tickets. But that is a great idea about the 2-day tickets. We still have a couple of 1-day tickets that were purchased for the dining plan pkg several years ago.

Is Disneyland doable in just one day or would you recommend 2 Days? The last time I was there was in 1961!

You can probably do just the Disneyland park in one day. One day wouldn't give you enough time to do DCA too. To do both would be 2 days minimum, 3 days if you want to relax at all. There is a great thread on the Disneyland boards by HyrdoGuy which explains all the stuff a WDW vet needs to know about DLR before they go. Check it out.

the general consensus on the DLR board is that buying a brand-new wdw ticket and taking it to DLR is not what is intended by allowing you to use leftover MYW days at DLR. but most have had success exchanging wdw days for DLR days on tickets that have been used at wdw - it just takes 10 minutes or so to go through the process. (although post #24 is a bit of a scary story from someone who was an exception.)

if they let you use a new wdw ticket for DLR, be sure to post and let us know how it goes...

Back when the AP renewals started as day 1 when you exchanged them, I purchased one or more prior to the AP expiration date but didn’t exchange the voucher it until long after the original AP expiration date. Wish I had purchased a few more when that type of renewal was offered. Perhaps they should reconsider that option for AP renewals, after all how many of us renew our AP’s on the day it ends? It would be an incentive to buy the renewal long before it is exchanges, therefore Disney would have the $$ to use long before the guest visit.

DW was kind of on me for years about buying tickets before the annual price increase, but I never got off my duff to do it.

Apparently after watching so much money go away on investments I got motivated this year and bought $4.5K worth of tickets before the price increase. I looked at it compared to a 15% annual increase in tickets - that's way better than I've done in the market the last 5-10 years.

I have personally used brand new 10 day park hopper tickets from WDW at DLR. This was for my DH and me in August, 2009. We had no problem at all doing so.

I buy 2 or 4 tickets ahead of time for the guests we take with us before the price increase. I always get expiring/hoppers...just don't see the value in getting non-expiring tickets since we are usually in the park at least for fireworks every day. My DH and I use AP's so we just renew those.

We recently used a 1994 WDW hopper with one day left for a one day hopper at DLR :). My DH only needed one day and this seemed like a good use of that old hopper that I have been holding onto for 17 years! Kind of sad to part with it, but it was no problem to use and we saved a lot of money over buying a one-day hopper or even a one-park ticket.

As far as stockpiling, I bought 4 NE 10 day hoppers before the price increase, but that was around $2K or so and hard to stomach. My VISA bill is HUGE now :scared1: because I also bought DLR hoppers and paid for DLR stuff during the same month. I know I will be happy in 2013 and 2015 when I don't have to buy WDW tickets for the four of us, but ouch on the credit card! I wish I could have bought more, but sadly could not afford any extra expenses. Sad that the hoppers have gone up so much since we first purchased them in 2006 :(.
