Stocking your "Game Room" (What games?)

What would you put in, or do you have in, your Game room. I mean I realize the essentials, pool table, darts, maybe a card table, but I am going to get a few old school video games like maybe Donkey Kong Jr. or Pacman/ Mrs. Pacman, maybe Asteriods. Was wondering what your favorites were.

There was this really cool old submarine game where you looked through the periscope and shot torpedoes at ships, I'm trying to find it online.

And I left out the most obvious (bar). But if you have a unique bar, I would love to hear about that. I love those ones I've seen that have a rock crystal top and are lighted from underneath, they glow really cool. We have so much natural crystal rock everywhere where I'm at, that would probably be something I think about. I also always thought a huge special fishtank would make a cool bar.

How about a few board games? I'm looking at my shelf right now; I have Mad Gab and Cranium, and an electronic one called Catch Phrase. I also have one called Judge Yourself, but it's more of a "What would you do/discussion"-type game than a "Let's have a couple of drinks and have some FUN" game! :drinking1

Not video games, but...

There are some vintage-look wooden board games that can be stored hanging on the wall. I believe they are by Melissa and Doug. I have a couple of them and have always thought about hanging them on the wall of our rec room but have never gotten around to it. They are really nice looking.

Here is something similar to what we have but it seems like on ours the checkers slide down the sides for storage and you can see them from the front.

When we got them a few years ago, they had this hangable style in several classic games.

Comfy seating areas!

Card table for regular cards/poker would be good. Don't forget Uno. Boards games: Trouble, Sorry, Cranium games, Taboo.

A fishtank sounds good. Be careful what kind u get. I think the saltwater ones require a lot of cleaning & I heard the fish eat each other a lot. Blah

Wii-- Rock Band, Guitar hero, sports games--bowling/tennis.

Do you want to make it a movie area as well?

We have a pool table, an air hockey table (small), a poker table, and a dart board. And a card-type wooden table and chairs and a bunch of board games.

Those are all nice ideas.

I didn't think of stocking up on the board games, which I guess means a card table is a must, since you could play the board games on the card table. (I already have a ton of good board games, some really old ones too.)

I like the idea of the fold out games thing too.

And yes, I'm thinking more of just flat screen TVs in corners for the game room. Theater room is next, haven't made it that far yet.

What's really neat I just found on line that a lot of the old games are cheap now, like $400 or so, like Pacman etc., but most interestingly is this company I found that custom makes a video game that looks like an old pacman game or something, but it has about 100 different old school games inside of it.

But there is something to be said of the charm of the real old game like a Pacman. I found my submarine game, there's one on ebay I'm thinking about bidding on it. Its called Midway Sea Raider or something like that, has the periscope and all. :woohoo:

Monopoly and Scrabble!

I don't know if those are too old-school, but they are my favorites.

RE: Old school video games. My favorite was Centipede, the one with the rolling ball for moving your "shooter".

It's probably not your thing, but in my hypothetical game room (basement is not yet finished...getting there) in addition to the things mentioned thus far, there would need to be a "role playing" game set up area. Shelves for books and miniatures and the like.

I'd need more than one table/flat surface, so that large parties can have several different games going at once. Also, one table has to specifically be a poker table, or else you need to buy one of the special converting table tops.

Air Hockey is a requirement. Less required are foosball or table tennis. And I know of one game room I saw a picture of that actually had a skeeball lane in it...I would kill for that.

Yes or the mini bowling. I've seen those, they are about probably 1/4 scale a real bowling alley lane. I do like all the miniature dragons and stuff I've seen in the glass cases at the comic book shops and stuff. It would be cool to have like miniatures of the Clash of the Titans figurines or something.

Our bar isn't "unique" in any way particularly, but it is "Rat Pack" themed. We have tons of Rat Pack album covers and posters up and martini glasses on display (not sure if that's particularly Rat Pack, but we feel like they fit!). We have a pool table, foosball, and a couple of super comfy armchairs.

my favorite old school video games were centipede, space invaders, pac man, ms. pac man, and asteroids. those were awesome :) DD's dentist has a few old video games in his waiting room, and i love going there, because i get to play centipede, lol.

We played that game at the bowling alley.:thumbsup2 Dh will remember the name, I know he played it too. Found it, it is called "BattleZone". You did not shoot torpedeos at ships, you shot at tanks.

Well, I have my "lottery game room" and my "reality game room". Obviously I will go with reality since chances of hitting the lottery are slim and none.

First of all, I would need an appropriate amount of TV's to match my video games. At least 3, for Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox.

Computer for games.

Now my classics....

Pachinko
Slot Machine
Pin Ball
Ms. Pac Man

Here is a nice classic list on the Wiki. Scroll down for games list.

They make the "flip" tables - one side is pool and the other is air hockey. My sister has one of those. It seems to be popular and gets a lot of use.

Most probably don't remember this one, but if I were to choose one video game, it would be Pac Land...

I never had a spare quarter when our local arcade had this game.
