I was just wondering why so many of you were saying in the "I will not _________" thread that you wouldn't do Stitch's Great Escape? I'm looking for a review of the ride from the people that rode it and how does it really compare to Skippy? LOL

It was kind of boring.
You get locked down in your seat and Stitch "escapes" . As he is running around it is dark and your restraint moves and you smell Stitches burps.
Truly--that's it!
Oh- and the restraint left bruises on my neices shoulder from when it bounces up and down. We did it once just to know what it was but most likely will NEVER do it again.

The pre-show is 10x more entertaining than the show itself. My son, 5 at the time, walked off and said, "Dad, do we ever have to ride that again?" It was that bad.

Of course, Skippy was a star in the pre-show for Alien Encounter.
And Skippy is still in the pre-show for Stitch's GE. (To a lesser degree.)

The actual attraction:

The idea is that a "creature" is beamed into the glass tube in the center of the room.
The guests are under the watchful eyes of those in charge, via video screens.
The creature (a high-quality A100 AudioAnimatronic figure) looks very lifelike.
The room loses power and goes dark.
The tube ruptures.
The creature escapes.
He "jumps" around the room, making noises, various audience reactions to his being nearby.
Creature makes "contact" with guests in various ways (jumping on the restraint, breath of creature nearby, "saliva" of creature hitting guests, audio of creature directly behind and by the side of guests).
Creature returns to center tube to be seen just before the climax.

NOW... was I describing Stitch, or AE?

Because that's the basic rundown of BOTH shows.

So, IMHO, the actual attraction of Stitch is very similar (VERY) to AE.
A MAJOR difference is that there is much less "screaming" on the Stitch audio track. (Most guests did not know that most of the "screaming from the guests" in AE was actually ON THE AUDIO TRACK... which, of course prompted members of the ACTUAL audience to scream as well.)
And in Stitch, cetrtainly, nobody gets, uhh, MUNCHED by the anti-hero.

But so many posters here just HATE Stitch and long for the return of the "unique" AE.

I'm at a loss as to how there can be SO MUCH distinction between the two.

But, I have a very good memory of all the posts here back when AE was operating... 99.99% HATED AE and longed for Disney to build a more "kid-friendly" attraction... like STITCH.

:rotfl2:

The reason I don't like it, is because with it being Stitch, you would think it is Kid-Friendly. BUT it's not! They even had to try raising the heigh requirement. There are too many kids getting scared in it!

I haven't been on the new version yet, and to be quite honest, I have zero desire to. The original was OK the first time around. At least you didn't know what to expect, but after that, it was boring.

Stitch, to me, sounds just like AE, only with a different alien. And just my 2 cents, but Stitch, as a Disney character, just turns me off anyway.

I agree! I cannot stand Stitch. I do not relate to him, but10-13 year old boys (or DBF's who haven't grown up) love him! I guess they have a connection!

I might be crazy for posting this but Stitch was one of my favorite rides!!! I'm a huge stitch fan and i thought the ride was cute!! Its not a ride that will make you sick and its kinda relaxing!! don't get my wrong i like the rollercoaster and all the other rides but i thought it was nice to sit down and be entertained! I loved the Stitch Ride we rode it like 3 times during our trip!!!

I use to love AE. So I was expecting Stitch to be completly different. The only difference is that Stitch is AE without all the good stuff!!LOL It is boring, dull, and we all hated it! Even DD, who was 6. wasn't afraid and thought it was boring and asked to never have to go on it again!

AE was funny, scary, and interesting. Stitch is just boring. It might have worked if they had bothered to come up with some decent writing for it. The special effects are nothing spectacular in this day and age, it was the story around them that made AE work. With Stitch, they must have had the accountants write the story. Why pay creative people when marketing is what really matters? Right?

It's just as boring as Alien Encounter. Basically the same ride, minus a cool alien and add Stitch.

I really enjoyed this "ride" but I have nothing to base it on. I never rode AE. My brother was too young at the time so neither of us got to go on it even though I was like 12. I rode stitch this summer and loved it and I'm 23!! The only complaint I have is stitch's burp. It was horrible and made me nauseous for the rest of the day. I'm really sensitive to smells though. Any bad smell can trigger my migraines. Overall, I thought it was cute and I even had to go buy a stitch stuffed animal afterwards!

I think Stitch gets a bad rap. I will also say I never "rode" the Alien one it replaced. I thought Stitch was kind of neat. The seats were a little restrictive and I can understand children being a little wigged out by the dark! But the burp was kind of funny -- now having been around lots of little kids (teacher at one time) and lots of pets (cats - litter boxes - get the drift), the little chili burp did not phase me at all!

But my neighbor told me that it was just disgusting to her! Different strokes for different folks! :teeth:

although Sticth is quite similar to AE, it dosn't have the tommorowland theme based around it. AE is definatly the sort of ride that should be included in this section of the park and stitch isn't. I think some disney fans like myself are disgruntled at the fact that a thriller ride (even though it has been restricted in the past years) has been replaced by a another cartoon ride. I think Disney will realise stitch dosn't work and replace it sooner rather then later. I hope anyway!

I guess i am alone in liking Stitch.... I'm sticking to my guns thought!! Anyone with me?

I happen to love Stitch too... so you're not alone!

We rode AE when we where there in '98, and will ride Stitch when we go back in a few months... Until then all I can say is I loved AE... From the sounds of it, they didn't change a whole lot about the attraction... so chances are I'll still enjoy it, and our girls will as well.. :woohoo:
