Here's my fist attempt at stitch assist. It's not the greatest, but I really like the picture. Why did the program (Canon's Stitch Assist) give it those ragged edges? Do you know where I could print this full size? ETA, oh, and I had to laugh. When I was looking at the full size pic, I could see that I have pictures of the girls in two different parts of the pictures. You can't tell very well when it's small like this, but those two little bumps near the middle are them, and they are also about an inch to their right.

Can't help you with your questions. I just want to compliment you on your picture and bump you back up to the top.

I guess I can take a stab at this. Anyone feel free to correct me on this however. The stitching software gives the ragged edges because it tries to correct the viewing distortion that the lens creates in making the image. When you pan around and take multiple images, there is a certain distortion. If you tried to however just put the images next to each other in Photoshop things would not line up properly.

The stitching software tries to reconcile these distortions and reverse them so that it can stitch things together realistically. When that happens the images boundaries are no longer a rectangle and more "pillow" like.

What you can do in the future when taking panoramics is to leave some space in the photographs for cropping later after it is stitched so that you can crop out a rectangular photo.
