stinky couch - cleaning question

OK - this is gross, but my dog threw up on our couch. I cleaned it up, obviously, but I think it still smells. I steam cleaned it twice, used pet odor nuetralizer, used febreeze.... Anything else I can try?

How quickly did you clean it up? Where on the couch is it (arm, cushion)? It may have gotten past the surface area, in which case I doubt there's much you can do. Also, if you repeatedly wet it, you may make things worse.

Maybe a professional could help.

We had the same problem with our carpet (and pee, not puke) and ended up pulling up all the carpeting.

You could try using vinegar and water and using the steam cleaner to remove the liquid. Other than that, I'm out of ideas for you.

you can try with a professional cleaning company but i would'nt hold out much hope (stomach acids do something nasty to fabrics). i just recently had to toss out a perfectly fine vacuum cleaner because although we had cleaned an area of carpet several times subsequent use of the vacuum resulted in it absorbing some of the lingering oders (everytime i fired it up eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!).

best of luck-try servpro or one of the types of companies that go in after fires, floods-they seem to have better experience than regular cleaning companies.

No more Febreze !!! (that stuff makes me nauseous, LOL)

Try Nature's Miracle. You can buy it at PetSmart or Petco. Eliminates pet stains and odors. I swear by it.

I prefer Simple Solution to Nature's Miracle. If it soaked through to the foam cushion, can you unzip the cover of that cushion and have it replaced? There are reupholstering shops that will sell you a foam square.

I used Simple Solution. Unfortunately the cushions are attached and there's no way to remove them. I just called COIT and have them coming out. She said she has stuff that can nuetralize bile. I'm not holding out hope, but I'm really hoping not to have to replace it! It was cleaned up immediately. My dog was evidently not feeling well and needed her "mom", so she jumped up on me and promptly tossed cookies everywhere.

I guess I've been lucky making it through 13 years of kids and dogs and not having this problem before, but boy it sure makes throwing up an expensive incident!
