I just made a great dinner tonight, if I do say so myself.

You all know how I don't cook. I've only used my crock pot once in my life which was a week ago.

So, I decided to try it out today. I made BBQ pulled pork and it was actually very good.

You want the recipe. It was super easy w/ 3 ingredients b/c I do not own very many ingredients.

1.) pork roast (mine was still frozen)
2.) can of root beer (brand doesn't matter, I used A&W)
3.) bbq sauce (I used Sweet Baby Rays)

All I did was throw the frozen pork roast in the crock pot, poured 1 can of root beer over it, and cooked on low until it was done & shred apart easily with a fork. Mine was about 7 hours on low, although I think my crockpot runs hot. Then drain the crockpot. Put the shredded pork back in and add BBQ sauce. I'm not sure if the root beer does it or what, but it was really good. I just wish I made a bigger roast. It was only 1.3 lbs. Next time I'm making a 2 or 3 lb roast.

Ok, so who's got some easy crock pot recipes for me?

That's funny! I'm making pulled pork tomorrow for dinner. We have these friends who like to have oyster parties from time to time. They get a bunch of oysters and we BBQ them and everyone stands outside and eats them basically right off the BBQ. Well, I don't do shellfish, so I'm making pulled pork sandwiches and some black bean dip with guacamole and salsa. I know that's a weird combo, but people just snack on the dips the whole night and the sandwiches and oysters (if you are into them) are the main course. It should be fun.

Oh, and I'm glad you used Sweet Baby Rays, I think it's the best. I will try to find some more crock pot recipes for you that are easy.

Sun - I love cooking with my crockpot. Some things I've done are frozen meatballs with just a jar of spaghetti sauce, parmesan and some basil, and some jarred percconi (sp?) peppers for a little spice, chicken in buttermilk with herbs, (really good served with biscuits,) pot roast is easy, just chop celery and onions, and put in with the roast then red wine and beef broth, as well as one of those onion soup / dip mix.

I know there's other stuff I've made that has turned out really good, but I can't think of them all right now.

Your pork recipe sounds good though, I'll have to try it.

That sounds yummy!!

I will look, I have some recipes for the crock pot somewhere.

Yes, bring on the recipes! Easy ones! I am cooking challenged here.

The other good pork roast we made was:

1 can crushed pineapple
1/2 cup brown sugar
pork roast

That one was good too.

So, whatcha all doing today. DH just took DD to soccer. I usually go, but didn't want to today. I'm dragging. We have Eddie Z's coming at noon for window treatments. Thrilling........ NOT! So, I really should clean up a little before she comes. Then we have a b-day party for our niece, she's 16. That's about it. Oh yeah, it's freezing here too. I can't wait for Spring!

I think they are pretty easy. I am not cooking challenged, I just I HATE cooking. It takes up too much time. I want to get in there and get out as soon as possible!!

I am going to dinner with friends for my birthday. Then to the MMA fights.
Cleaning my car....then make a list crap I need to pack for Disneyland this wk.
The sun is finally shining today.

Do you guys like Pink?
I really like her new CD.

Morning girls! Quiet weekend on the thread. I didn't turn on the computer all weekend. Saturday we had basketball stuff and then we had a party. My pulled pork was a hit, but I would like to try Sun's easy recipe. Mine was more complicated, but good.

Sunday we recovered from said party and did stuff around the house.

Today I'm here til noon then I have to volunteer at the kids' school. I don't know why that makes me cranky, I just don't ever feel like doing it. I don't like Andrew's teacher very much. But Becca's is an old family friend so I like going into her class. Andrew's teacher is young and cute so I thought she was going to be fun but she doesn't seem to have any personality. (Now you know all my kids!)

Hi girls!

Jordan - I like Pink, but I do not ever buy CD's so I only know whatever they play on the radio. Abby like her song "Rockstar" or whatever it is called.

Xena - I have a niece named Rebecca, but Abby calls her Becca! She also calls my sister, Jean, even though her name is Janine. I guess the baby talk just stuck with her. The Jean thing cracks me up b/c I find myself calling her Jean when I talk to Abby about her. Speaking of "Jean", she turns 40 this Saturday. I need to get her a b-day gift!

So, hope everyone had a good weekend.

We had Eddie Z's come out on Saturday. She spent 3 1/2 hours at our house. Guess how much she quoted for 4 rooms of window treatments. 3 rooms had 2 windows of Roman shades, 1 room was fabric. When she told me the final price, my jaw hit the ground. $7100! :scared1: She left and DH and I just looked at each other like is she nuts? I could go on 3 vacations for that price! Needless to say, we will not be using Eddie Z's. Sounds like we will be doing window treatments on our own. CRAZY!

So, I spent most of the day yesterday trying to figure out our vacation. DH is being a downer and doesn't want to go to Jamaica. He is not crazy about the resort I picked out. I admit is not as nice as the one in Mexico, but it is geared towards kids and it is affordable.

So, now I'm back to debating Mexico. The latest reports I'm hearing is Playa is safe. I'm still just worried about the drive to and from the airport. I haven't heard any recent horror stories. The news is now reporting not to drive to Mexico. If you fly into the tourist areas, you should be OK.

Hmmmm. What to do................

Work is boring today. A lot of people are off b/c of Pulaski Day. I know, other states don't have that day off. Just us lucky Chicago peeps.

Abby is off school. She woke up not feeling too great, but I sent her to the sitter anyways. I can tell when she is sick b/c her cheeks get all rosey. I gave her some tylenol and told her if she wants me to come get her, I would leave work. So far, so good though. I'm sure a couple of games of Mario Kart will cure her illness.

SUN - do you know how to make Chili? Chili is an easy one in a crock pot. I dont put raw beef in there, though.... Ill brown it the night before, stick it in the fridge and throw it in, in the morning before I leave.

$7100?? Are they insane??? Go to Ikea. You can get it all for a couple hundred AND get some lunch. :thumbsup2

I'd be scurrrred of Mexico - but I'm paranoid. Why not just go to Florida?

Yeah - just us lucky Chicago peeps. I remember being in school when they passed it and being SO EXCITED!! Another day off!

The boys (well, your daughter too, probably) had a nice juicy 4 day weekend, with a teacher's institute on Friday. Lucky dawgs.

No, thank you. I don't like chili. :guilty: Thanks anyways. I hate chili. I hate sloppy joe's. I'm weird like that.

I don't want to go to Florida b/c it is prime Spring Break time so I don't want to do any theme park where it will be packed. Plus, then I can't use Abby's passport we got. We have to use a passport! :lmao: Plus, I want to go all inclusive and eat & drink myself silly.

Abby had a 4 day weekend too!

ETA - I saw a map of Playa compared to the border and all the violence and it is not even close. That makes me less nervous too.

How about Greek Spaghetti Sauce? Would you like a Greek Spaghetti sauce recipe? :)

You can still use the passport. We show Danny's at the security gate at the airport. They say they dont need it, but we pass it to them anyways. :lmao:

If youre comfy going - then go. Im paranoid - you guys should know that by now. Ill never go to mexico now. Good thing I already have.

What about a cruise? :confused3

OMG! The lady from Eddie Z's just called me and asked why we are not going ahead with our order. UGH! I wish I didn't answer the phone. I told her she is crazy with that price. So, she is going to send me a new quote and scale back the window treatments. Whatever........ This new quote will probably be $4,000 and I'll still laugh at her. I hope she doesn't egg my house.

Greek Spaghetti sauce? Why is it Greek? I never heard of that. Sure, send it my way. I hate jar spaghetti sauce so I wait for my Mom to make hers (Italian) and freeze it. I asked her for her recipe and there is no recipe. It is all taste, she says. Whatever........

I was researching cruises. The problem is I can't find affordable airfare so it ends up being as much as an all inclusive when a cruise isn't all inclusive. KWIM? I've only been on a cruise once and it wasn't a great experience. We hit really bad weather the last day and everyone on the ship got sick. They were putting barf bags all along the ship. Not fun at all.
