stink bugs

Tons of them here in Maryland - Harford County. Luckily only a few got in the house. Of course my dog needs to go in and out a million times during the day so I know they are def. coming in with him. I practically close the door on his tail I want him in so fast. They were all over the "sunny" side of my house yesterday.

Last year was bad (1st time) and I also heard it will be even worse this year :scared1: My son said they were even on his school bus yesterday. Really wish I could get some fresh air in the house but if they get in thru my shut windows just my screens won't stand a chance. Guess I'll have my a/c on till we need heat.

I hate, hate these bugs. As a matter of fact, I hate all bugs :scared1:!

There were so many on my front door today, I dared not go out to the mailbox.

I have 5 of the little &%*&%*$@% sitting up on one of my windows that I cannot get to.

Chester County PA too

All over the back of our house, crawling on the windows, yuck!

I'm in NJ too - Monmouth Co. -I've noticed more than usual this summer too.
But not in the amounts that you all are reporting - we've had maybe 10 or so in the house - almost everyday since June. Thank goodness they don't seem to be swarming here yet!

We're in Somerset too and they literally exploded in the last few days. It's disgusting!!!!

WTOP (Washington DC) said to expect them "in Biblical proportions" this year.

Lovely.

LOL!, but not really...seems true...Hit here in AACO MD about 2 weeks ago, and have been getting worse...Just last night dinner was interrupted when we were dive bombed by one!!! Gross...just gross!!!

They are one thing I do not miss about NJ! We do have them here but not as many as when we lived in Hunterdon Co.

There really is no "treatment" for them right now. The important thing, though, is that they are now going to look for a place to stay for the Winter.

Make sure all cracks/openings in your siding, around windows and doors are all completely sealed on the outside of your house. They only need a small crack to get in, and then they will find a place to cozy up in your walls. Insulation is a great place for them to nest. In addition, seal all of your woodwork and cracks inside as well. A nice heated living room is a great place for them to go, also.

They reproduce at a ridiculous rate, so giving them a place to nest in your house will only exacerbate the problem next year. Once you start seeing them you only have about another 1-2 weeks to get things sealed up, or, by then, some have already found their way in.

My advice...get caulking! We sealed our entire exterior last year because 1) we had a bat get into our attic, and 2) living in Pennsylvania (stink bug ground zero) we had them everywhere. This year, I've seen them around our neighbors' homes, but we have seen very few near ours.

Good luck!

I live in southwest VA and these bugs are EVERYWHERE! They are so ugly and so annoying! A friend of mine got one in her vaccum cleaner and she had to throw it away because the smell was so bad!

Stink Bugs and Box Elder Bugs are 2 different things. Stink Bugs are an invasive species that came into the country (via Pennsylvania) in the late 1990 from Asia. There is no treatment recommended to get rid of them at this point. They have no known enemies in the U.S. and their population is expected to explode. In Frederick County, Maryland, so far this year, they have destroyed about 20% of the apple population. Google Stink Bug and the state you live in for more information.

I'm in Frederick County and they are foul. Getting in and out of the house is like a race to beat the bugs.

We've noticed that since we turned on the air conditioning yesterday, they are not as bad. The day before it looked like an invasion on our screens.

There is no known enemy to these little buggers. BUT, in Mexico they use them in tacos! They supposedly taste like cinnamon. (anyone want to find out?) Also, they are loaded with vitamin B2. (just sayin')

Hang in there, Winter's coming!

just saw 3 outside my window. I took some hornet spray and killed them all. VICTORY IS MINE!

Make sure those little %$&(*&## are not playing possum:scared1: If I knew hornet spray worked, I would own stock in a bee spray company!!

Toad_Passenger, you just skeeved me out! We have vinyl siding on our house. We can't caulk the seams.:scared::crazy2::faint:

We're in Chester Co too... ugh, they're all over. Thankfully I haven't gotten any inside the house yet, but they're all over our van. EW!

I think your vinyl siding will be okay. If it is installed properly, there should be solid wood sheathing, then a layer of "house wrap" and then the siding, which should be overlapping at the seams.

I also don't think they'll nest in the siding, since it offers no protection from the Winter weather. :thumbsup2

They're all over Maryland (howard county here) -- my daughter says they're freaking everybody out inside the high school.

Nothing like having them plop onto your head during the math test!

I've never heard of, nor seen these and I've lived in NJ all of my life!

They started showing up a couple years ago. The first ones I saw I had to look up online to see what they were.
I see you're in Bergen County I'm in my office today in Englewood Cliffs there were 2 in here. First time I've seen them here. Seems they are traveling.

I'm a couple towns away in Bergenfield--I'll be on the look out!

We're out in Warren County and we have them, although not in the mass quantities some of you have! We have a bug vac (it looks kind of like a light saber). We vacuum the little buggers up when we see them in the house. We usually let them die a slow death in the bug vac. We are so mean!!!!
