Have a question - I have 2 children who are not great swimmers, but don't mind standing in water and putting their faces in it.

I know Stingray City can be up to 8 feet deep.

I'm wondering what about the stingrays at Castaway Cay? How deep is that?

I think they'd enjoy it most in about 3-4 feet of water, where they could stand and have their heads above the water.

Sting ray at CC is great. The stingrays come up to a special table to be fed. You can pat and touch the stingray when it comes up to the table. After the ffeding you can wander around to see the stingray swiming around.

Greta for kids as the stingray comes right up. Also the barbs are removed to prevent accidents.

This thread gives great information about this excursion including lots of pictures.

:p wrong link! I keep getting pictures of staterooms.

From what we were told when we went through the Stingray program at Castaway Cay, they will vary where they put the "tables" depending on the audience. This way kids (or non-swimmers) can participate in shallower water without being scared. The 'rays just swim up the platform to get their food, and while there you can touch and pet them. Let the kids know that they will swim around them and rub up against their legs (like a cat). We enjoyed it, and this trip the kids and grandparents are signed up. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Amy! :) I hope that I fixed it. Too many windows opened at the same time.

LOL Your welcome. I kind of figured that was the case. Been there done that before.

Ok I know they can't hurt you, but there is just something about those things that scare the crap out of me. I thought it might be something I could do when I go back. Uh NO! :rolleyes1

DH & DS did the stingrays this past Saturday. DH said the water was ankle deep --- the water was cold so he was really glad it wasn't waist deep! LOL!

I have to admit that the only reason that I have considered this excursion is DS's excitement about it. I will do this for him...might end up liking it...not counting on that though. ;)

We just did this last week. DS 7 is not an independent swimmer and very hesitant in water he can't touch the bottom in. I figured this experience would be a flop or a great success. Luckily it was the latter. DH went with him but I watched. The water was shallow but you can go out deeper when you have free snorkle time. The water was cold at first but they adjusted. DS loved this (probably one of his trip highlights). He learned a lot and he was the last one out of the water!

We really enjoyed the sting ray encounter at CC. My DD is disabled and can not swim at all. My DH held her and helped her she LOVED it. The rays were fantastic with her. SHe was very ruff with them and they kept coming back for more LOL! We did not let her feed them because I was afraid that she would stck her hand in ther mouth but she really loved petting them. They really did remind me of cats. The CM running it we great and I would highly recommend it.

I keep hearing the water was cold - will it be cold the end of May? My DS couldn't wait to snorkel at Typhoon Lagoon last year. We waited in an hour plus line - he put his feet in the water and couldn't get out of there fast enough.
The last time we were at Castaway Cay I thought the water was warm, is that just warm fuzzy memories working overtime?
We were also thinking about doing the Castaway Ray's Stingray adventure in Nassau. Any thoughts as to one being better than the other? :confused3
