Stimulus measures that may help your wallet

He already has, his given us a new president who realize that there are unfortunates in this country and they must be helped and also realizes there is a big difference between "Tough love" and "no love what so ever" between helping some one and socialism.
Do you know how mant trillions of dollars were spent on the poor under GWB?
Who also recognizes that the strength of any country is only as great as it's weakest chain
So we are only as strong as the heroin and meth addicts? We are doomed, indeed...

OMG!:sad2:

I am not wasting any more of my time discussing this with you if this is your opinion and talk about narrow-minded. OMG!!! I seriously fear for the future of our Country.

That car and home credit...how can people afford to buy new cars and new homes? They are tightening their belts when handing out credit for anything. So, if you are poor and can't really afford to do either, how is this credit going to help? When people are struggling to pay their bills, the last thing they need to do is buy a new car. A home I can see, but if you have no credit or bad credit, how do you get a loan these days? We've been giving loans to people who could not afford it for the past ?? years and look what has happened. I just don't get it.

Giving 300.00 to retired RR workers and older people will help them for how long? One month? People who saved for a rainy day and retirement don't need the 300.00 and most of the retired RR workers I know made great money and also saved. I am sure 300.00 will help some people but not for very long.

We need job creation. I know too many kids graduating from college and they can't find a good job in hard times like these.

We're definitely in a huge mess.

Pot meet kettle...kettle...pot...

Pot meet kettle...kettle...pot...

At least I paid for my kettle with my hard-earned money and it was not given to me. And no, I am not going to give it to someone that is too lazy or unwilling to get their own. They need to work for it.

That's a lot easier said than done for some people. For a single mother with only a highschool education, clawing your way back is a lot harder. For a widowed senior on a fixed income whose medications cost more than what she gets in a month in SS clawing your way back can be impossible. These are people who aren't poor by choice.

A single mother with only a high school education did get into her position by choice. She made the choice to have unprotected or inadequately protected sex. She made a bad choice in the father of her child. She made the choice to continue the pregnancy. She made the choice to keep her baby rather than give it up for adoption. She made the choice to not use existing social programs to further her education.

I have more sympathy for the elderly, as no one could have predicted how expensive drugs and medical treatment would become, because, quite frankly, it wasn't an issue when they were growing up. So many illnesses were fatal, and treatment so ineffective, that no one expected to live as long as they do now.

Yes, I forgot how darn easy it is to be a single mom and get a college education. Too bad for her and her kids. Let 'em starve....

I pray to never have the lack of compassion I hear from so many people on this board.

 Anointed by God?

Amen!

YOU DO NOT KNOW ME!!!! My husband and I lived through very very lean times in our early marriage days during the Jimmy Carter years. We were dining on the cheapest food we could find. We were wearing the same clothes over and over. We were driving a clunker. Do not ever preach to me that I don't know what its about. We were left with just about nothing and we built our lives over again THE HARD WAY! We did it ourselves penny by penny and never asked for help ffrom anyone.

How did you manage to pay for anything when you were both unemployed?

Unemployment is expected to be 9% by 2010 by the congressional budget office. MI's unemployment rate is already over 10%. There is a county in Indiana that currently has 15% unemployment. Obviously no one with a bit of sanity would seriously suggest that with those kind of unemployment rates there are living-wage paying, health-care providing jobs in every part of the U.S. that are just waiting for someone to fill them. So it is inevitable that there are going to be lots of families that are simply out of work, possibly for years at a time.

I assume you mean to say that you were one of those families (otherwise, I'm sure you wouldn't presume to speak about those families who are in that situation now). So I do wonder--how if you and your husband were both out of work and without health insurance for, say, a year or two did you manage to pay for food, rent, healthcare, gas, etc without taking anything at all from the federal govt (or, I presume, anybody else)?

None of this will benefit us either. It will help those who really need help. But it doesnt seem like it'll 'stimulate' anything. People spend money when they have disposable income. None of these measures provides disposable income to anyone.

How so?

Do you mean that people are not likely to spend the tax breaks/refunds or govt help paying for health benefits (that they will save them instead)?

Kids? So she had more than one. :sad2: It isn't easy to be a single mom and get an education, but it is possible, especially if you don't make the same mistake again. I've seen it happen.

I had a lot more compassion back when women didn't have a choice. I have less compassion for women who refuse to take responsibility for preventing pregnancy when they are not in a position to support a child without government help. I have no compassion for women who cannot afford to raise a child , but still have one by choice, just because they want a baby, and they know that our government will NOT allow their children to starve.

I had lots of compassion once upon a time, when I believed that making birth control, abortion, and day cares at schools and community colleges would break the cycle of government dependence for these young women. I truly believed that someday every child would be born when his/her parents were in a position to give him/her all of the support, both financial and emotional, that he/she needed.

But nothing has changed, except more children are being born to unmarried mothers, and less of these women are giving these children to families who are in a position to do all of the above.

Again, who looks silly now? Your brush is mighty wide.
Well.....

.....since you obviously learned nothing from that experience about how it feels to be desperate and hungry.....

....I'm going to stop here before I get points.

I think alot of this comes down to the "me" factor. Someone else mentioned upthread about how we're all posting on a Disney Trip bulletin board. This indicates to me that NONE of us is hurting as badly as the millions of people unemployed or underemployed who can barely afford to keep a roof over their heads or food on the table. The internet is a luxury that they do without, so their stories obviously aren't going to be told on a WDW Trip Planning Internet Bulletin Board.

It's also obvious that those who are against the stimulous package aren't in a position where they need assistance. And good for them. They're entitled to their "me me me" attitudes. BUT so are those who need assistance because they're losing or have lost their jobs, homes and have little hope for anything getting better any time soon. They ALSO have the "me me me" perspective that's equally as valid and important as your perspective.

Unfortunately for the "me me me" people, there are a tremendous amount more of the "us us us" people than there are of the "me me me" people. That's who Congress is listening to now because the volumn of their cries have become deafening to those who take the time to look outside their little "me me me" world. Congress will listen to those who vote most often. With unemployment, people have very little else to do except vote; and now the "us us us" people are getting heard because the "me me me" people didn't want to take time out of their busy days to vote.

Don't like it? Call your congressman. There's another election in two years. Vote then.

I do not understand the income limits on many of the policies. Why put an income limit on the tax deduction of buying a new car. Is it really stimulus if you limit it to the income levels that are probably more affected by the economy and less likely to buy a car. Why not encourage upper-middle class to buy a new car? Same with housing. Clearly we can see the new definition of wealthy. Like predicted, it is not the $250k income earners claimed in the past.

You really think that all women who are single are so because of mistakes and stupidity? I know many women who were married and divorced, thus leaving them with the brunt of responisbilty for their children. What about women who left abusive partners? Should they just stay with them because of their paychecks?

I'm sure you have a billion narrow minded statements to prove your point, so I will just say that I am glad my heart is not made of stone. :flower3:

Because it's our job to MAKE the money, not to spend it. :thumbsup2

All of you who benefit from this "stimulus" ie welfare, be sure to thank your children and grandchildren 20-30 years from now when they are bearing the brunt of all this pork.

That's if you are still allowed to live and get meds by the government, of course.
