Stimulus measures that may help your wallet

What "me" mentality? I think the whole thing was a stupid idea - it saddles future generations with onerous debt, expands entitlement programs, encourages the entitlement mentality, and it's not going to actually fix anything. It got rammed through, without much debate, and I doubt that many of the people who read it actually read through the 800 or so pages of legislation.

If each of the items there were subject to full and open debate in the House and the Senate, and then signed into law, I'd be a lot more willing to shoulder the load. As it is, I'm being asked to assume an extra debt (at some indefinite point in the future) for a pork-laden, omnibus bill laughably disguised as a stimulus package.

:thumbsup2 You have it right!

What do you think it means? Not trying to start something but i really don't understand.

If the government wants to take money a person works to earn and then give it to a person who does not work to earn it - then what ever name you call it IMO it is not a fair policy.

Do you have any statistics about all these "freeloaders"? In this economy, there are far more people who have worked all their lives and now find themselves in dire straits who need help as opposed to people who are working the system. I think in our "Disneyfied" world we forget about all the people who live on a thin margin and are the hardest hit when an economic crisis comes around.

NO! I don't have time to find stupids statistics for you. Perhaps those who are living on a thin margin should step back and readjust their budgets and lifestyle. Now you will tell me that I am meanspirited. ITS CALLED TOUGH LOVE and there is not enough of it these days. Who looks foolish now?

Some of it benefits my family as well as my parents (After 40 years, father a retired railroad worker) so we will happily accept our "welfare".

it will immensely help the very "middle class" workers who now visit my food bank weekly.
I think they also will be very happy for their "WELFARE" :rotfl:

I've seen so many posts on here about "well, it doesn't do anything for me."

Me, me, me.....

We're on a Disney trip planning forum. I think we are better off than alot of the people out there all ready, and still we sit back and think only about ourselves... :sad2:

Clearly you have never had to eat mac and cheese every night because it was the cheapest thing at the store. Yes, you are meanspirited and most likely very lucky and blessed in your life. Good for you. Ever have a medical crisis that wipes out all you have saved? Lost a job you have worked at most of you life, and now, in your 50's have to try and get hired? It is so easy and simplistic to make statements like your's but until you have had to deal with situations like these and so many other, I would try and be less judgmental.

Yes, because we all know that all the unemployed are just lazy shiftless bums and if all the people on welfare and food stamps would just get off thier you know whats, they would be able to find jobs and not steal my money. :sad2:
and the senior citizen skipping blood pressure medicine because it's so costly, well if she'd just cut out eating or heat, she'd be able to buy all the medicine she needs.

Mac and cheese are not even close to the cheapest thing in the store. Try dried staples - like dried beans and rice and dehydrated milk powder. This was my childhood, and we never took a cent from the government, even though we qualified many times over. And my father was a liberal Democrat. But we made it through it just fine, and so will you. Just relax - this too shall pass... :grouphug:

YOU DO NOT KNOW ME!!!! My husband and I lived through very very lean times in our early marriage days during the Jimmy Carter years. We were dining on the cheapest food we could find. We were wearing the same clothes over and over. We were driving a clunker. Do not ever preach to me that I don't know what its about. We were left with just about nothing and we built our lives over again THE HARD WAY! We did it ourselves penny by penny and never asked for help ffrom anyone.

Again, who looks silly now? Your brush is mighty wide.

Please refer to post #30. I think you need to obtain a narrower brush too. :snooty:

Isn't that normal for a young married couple?

Yes it is but can happen in any stage of life. The way you fight and claw your way back from losing it anytime is all the same. You do it by your own hard work. What a novel idea that evidently is a thing of the past. God help our country.

Yes, because helping out with college expenses so more kids can go to college, get jobs and enter the workforce is welfare. And heavens, let us not offer some help with healthcare, let the uninsured go to the ER and tax the already drowning system. Why give the unemployed a bit more time to find a job before they lose their home because they can't pay the mortgage or rent.

Geesh, giving a helping hand is not welfare, it is what humans are supposed to do, help and care for each other.

Unfortunately, a college education is only valuable if there are jobs. This package encourages neither entrepreneurs nor new manufacturing, which is what this country needs to weather this storm. Lots of new government jobs are not the answer.

Its those freeloaders waiting for a handout that need to get off their butts and get a job. Is it sociallly responsible to keep enabling this mindset? I think not.

My brush is just fine. When you say Freeloaders need to get off their butts who did you mean? or those who are living on a thin marginm, Do you know these people.

You make a general statement, people are going to call you on it.

He already has, his given us a new president who realize that there are unfortunates in this country and they must be helped and also realizes there is a big difference between "Tough love" and "no love what so ever" between helping some one and socialism. Who also recognizes that the strength of any country is only as great as it's weakest chain

That's a lot easier said than done for some people. For a single mother with only a highschool education, clawing your way back is a lot harder. For a widowed senior on a fixed income whose medications cost more than what she gets in a month in SS clawing your way back can be impossible. These are people who aren't poor by choice.
