I may be fiendish but I almost always put it back into the mail. The idea is that the sender should at least handle (touch, if not process) it again.
Either left in my home mailbox with the flag up, or dropped in a street mailbox, whichever is more convenient for me. Sometimes weeks later if it got buried by (my) mistake.
